Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.
Hi all, I've been at a motel for several days cause my kitchen is being torn up, mold under my floor. Yikes !!!!
So I went in on Sunday for blood test and then went in on Monday for chemo. Well not for me cause my wbc is too low AGAIN, (this is driving me crazy) So they pushed me back to next Monday, Tue, Wed. I also had some intestinal bug, more diarrhea and nausea than usual. Went to Dr, she thinks that my viral infection plus the fact that my enzyme numbers are usually off (blood work test) brought my wbc down again. She said this shouldn't be happening and she said again that I should not always be sick, which I am , every day I am sick and weak. So they did a test to check my enzymes (Dihydropyrimidine dehydregenase) If the test comes back abnormal, not sure what they do about that. But I sure would like to get fixed. Would like my wbc to always be up and my constant sickness to go away. I have been sick ever since my operation in mid January and it's now mid July, 7 months. And it looks like this might go on for several more months, i'm only half way done. They put me back on Neupogen shots, every other day, my hubby gives them to me in the tummy, doesn't hurt but the side effects are nausea and fatigue, my constant companions. I guess I'm venting, sorry. Really down today,even though I'm back at my house now, good to be in my own bed. Sorry but I'm so sick and tired of being sick and tired. I keep praying that God will heal me (of every thing that is wrong with me) I ask for your prayers also. Thanks, gg

During these 6 month of treatment I tried to exercise almost every day. I reduced my activities only last month because my neuropathy got much worse. My doctor claims that work out helps everything including new WBC production.

Since I m restricted from the sun so my rash doesn't scar, I've decided this is the summer of movies. Being a mom for over 20 years I never had much time for them.

I Googled the thing you mentioned and Wikipedia had this:
Dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase deficiency (DPD deficiency) is an autosomal recessive metabolic disorder in which there is absent or significantly decreased activity of dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase, an enzyme involved in the metabolism of uracil and thymine.
Individuals with this condition may develop life-threatening toxicity following exposure to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), a chemotherapy drug that is used in the treatment of cancer.

They were just talking about DPD-deficiency on another list I read (ACOR). Diane pretty much summarized it. If you are DPD-deficient, they probably will cut out the 5-FU and give you other chemos. (If I had needed chemo I wouldn't have had 5-FU because it simply doesn't work for people with my "cancer gene," but there are still a lot of other chemos that work.)
