Colon Cancer Support Group
Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.
Today I went to the doctors 5 years to the day after I had the cancer removed from my bowel.
It was a humbling experience to sit across from him and here him say well G8 in this profession we say that once a patient hits the 5 year mark cancer free that there is less than 1% chance of it coming back.
Over the past 5 years it has been the most intense journey of my life. First up I have grown closer to my wife and my love for her grows stronger each day. I have been priveledged to see my children start to blossom into adults that any parent would be proud of.
Over the 5 years I have had many joys and heartaches, I have gone through all the worries of is that pain the cancer back is that lump cancer, I think these are normal reactions and that I am not paranoid.
The hardest for me was learning how to operate my new bowel and I have likened it to the new baby needing to understand and get to control their bowel. Today I am happy with where it is, I can work full time and enjoy my passion of fishing all be it with some modifications.
Finally and not least is the support I have received from this group, I have always found the people to be caring and supportive and there has been many times that I have been feeling down to log on here and find a hug waiting from someone that has cheered me up.

I can't even begin to process the many time you've been here for my self and many many others. You my friend, are an inspiration to beat all !!! Congratulations and big hugs to you, the precious wife and the young ones...Love you my Aussie friend : )
I think this is just wonderful for you and like everyone I am personally happy for you and hope some day I can say the same.
Five years is a long time though! As you said we all wonder the same thing about Cancer.
Not even one day and many times we all think is my cancer still gone? I think it is hard on everyone who has experienced the ordeal.
You deserve your wonderful family and from the way I feel you certainly are not and have never been paronoid.
Yes on these message boards we do make friends and get support.
It seemed to me around here when I told what I had the looks from some were like (it is all over for her) I can see people I have not seen in some time and they actually look surprised to see me.
I hope you can forget all the heartache you 'DID' have and live a completely normal life again.
