Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.
Little known fact that allergic reactions to CT contrast dyes are common (1 in 10) and if not treated quickly can prove to be fatal, even if like me you've had several CT's with contrast in the past without problems doesn't mean to say that you won't get an allergic reaction in the future (says the voice of experience!!)
First reaction was very mild just a couple of itchy lumps, second time round they gave me anti-histamines and probably steroids to combat the reaction, no issues on the day of the scan but 24 hours later my skin was pink and hot to the touch but i didn't have a fever, the progression from this is it keeps getting worse is difficulty breathing and worst case total inability to breath!!
Looks like I may end up having a day or two in hospital everytime I have a CT with contrast now!!

Wow, sounds like my experience. I haven't had any problems with the contrast except for the last one. The left side of my face was swollen (looked like the Borg out of Star Trek) and I had itcy hives between my fingers and on my cuticles and on my neck. My Dr explained that my body has had enough of the contrast and that it could happen at any time. My next scan I understand that I will have to take the prednisone and Benydryl...we will see what happens. I guess our bodies can only take so much before they have had enough.

Thanks for this post...more information is always a good thing....I had no idea a reaction could be well after having CT scans.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
