Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.

cancer start with polyps or colon lining?

As I understand it cancer can start either with colon polyps or within the lining of the colon.
Where did your cancer start?

My mother is 83 and they just found a polyp that was partially malignant and partially benign. They removed her ascending colon.

Mine was found at age 55 and was stage 3 when it was found (broken through all layers and infected 3 nodes). Who knows how or when it started. It was in the same place as my mom's and I also had my ascending colon removed.

Mine was found at age 52. They said it was polyps and diverticulities which turned into cancer - soon to have sigmoid portion removed.

my B/f was stage 4 when found polyps became big broke through leveing nodes in some areas

Mine were polyps, when i was diagnosed, two polyps were found that were pre-cancerous, and one that had turned to a pre cancerous tumour that had spread to my lymph nodes.

I think mine were totally different, I had 2 cancers 1 at my rectum and the other in the upper part of colon with about 40 polyps throughout the rest of colon and the cancers did infect 9 of my nodes. Due to this my whole colon was removed with a j pouch which will be reversed when I complete my chemo treatments hopefully by the end of October.
