Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.

Avastin Study

Yesterday when I saw my oncologist for my 3rd chemotherapy treatment I asked him about when he might want to start adding Avastin to the mix. He told me the results of a study on Avastrin were just published in June. The study shows that people with Stage 3 colon cancer were not better off with Avastin that without. I'm a Stage 4 but since all my cancer was sugically removed in his opinion the Avastin wouldn't add to my possibity of recovery.

Are you on the 5FU treatment, or Oxi at this point? I see my oncologist next week so I'll ask his opinion as well.

I think it's very smart of your doctor to not give you Avastin. I have a very similar situation - stage IV, everything was removed. What is the point of giving Avastin? My onc wanted everything by the book I agreed.

I was a stage IV [met to liver] and I had 8 treatments of Avastin along with my other mix of chemo-cocktail [oxi, 5Fu, etc]. The only side effect I had from the Avastin was elevated urine proteins, so the onc stopped the Avastin so as not to damage my kidneys. It's been almost a year since my last treatment and I've not had any more elevated proteins. I've had 2 PET scans, numerous CT scans and boocoo [is that a word..? haha] blood tests... everything is clean! If your body can take it - I recommend taking Avastin. From what I understand, Avastin will cut off blood flow to any tumor growing inside your body. Me having stage IV cc with met to the liver - Avastin sure sounded good to me. I just had a CEA test done last month and I sure enjoy the reports coming back clean. I pray that it stays that way.

    My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper?
