Codependency Support Group
Codependency is defined as someone who exhibits too much, and often inappropriate, caring for another person's struggles. A codependent person may try to change, or feel shame about their most private thoughts and feelings if they conflict with the other person's struggles. If you are on a journey towards self-love, this support group is for you. Join us and find others...
I think you have to judge about your codependency (or lack of). Coda has a list of traits of codependent behavior that might help you.

Personally, I think that there has to be some emotional support in a close relationship or it would not work for me. However, sometimes, when I just needed an ear, I found it was better to go to my sister or a friend than to my husband. When it was something serious, my husband would listen and be sympathetic. When I was upset by someone's behavior and my response to it, I found it better to go elsewhere to vent. So, I guess this means it depends on you. I think a partner should be a best friend and someone who should support you emotionally. You have to decide what you are willing to accept in your relationship, though. Good luck.
