Determined to prove my father wrong I did so well I even surprised myself with A & B results It was the best feeling ever an amazing feeling of validation that I'm not dumb after all.Getting C & D's in my report was the norm! My father then boasted to all about my excellent results ! So after 10 years of working I meet and marry my husband In the first 10 years of our marriage we would attend most of my family functions What my husband noticed was that because we were the poor Cinderella's in the family no one ever visited My brother is my kids only uncle but never visited unless he dropped my mom He also mentioned that after 10 years of working my father should have saved for my future

We were dirt poor because he was unemployed whereas I was in the clothing industry We use to receive handouts from welfare organizations We use to sell empty cooldrink bottles for bread money Our idea of a holiday was buying one jar of very expensive divine rich aroma coffee We needed to buy nappies and milk for our babies 1 year apart I eventually had to use the cloth nappies as the others were unaffordable. No family offered to help assuming my husband is lazy and should get a job. But why didn't they think of me who helped them those 10 years and what about my innocent kids? Why could they not assist them ?

Eventually 2012 I decided my husband has a point let me approach them and request a claim for a third of what I've worked for over the 10 year period Because my dad had passed on in early 2000 they said it was something that happened between my father and I and they had no part in it I mentioned that my father had once called me to a meeting where my sister and brother was present and he thanked me for working and said he would financially uproot any endeavour of studying further

I worked for 10 years then I met my husband After 12 years of marriage we decided to discuss with my sister and brother to request a third of the amount of money that I worked for the 10 years My siblings refused saying it had nothing to do with them and seeing that my father had passed on there was nothing that could be done In that case if they are not to prepared to recompensate me we'll have nothing further to do with them. The kids were called to greet for the last time Until such time they decide to 're pay what is due to me the status quou will continue Its been 5 years they have not budged

In the 5 years a lot has changed I was working but was continually retrenched or companies liquidated I also wanted to be with my kids. I decided to start my own business from home where designers consult me to turn their designs into patterns .I had saved a few months before, so if any thing went wrong I had back up savings for rent etc I didn't tell my husband because he wouldn't believe, not so much that I could pull it off, but because he always see the glass half empty. I on the other hand believed in myself and that there was a need for my service It turned out great eventually my husband saw how successful i was and started managing my business He is excellent business sense and after one year we could purchase industrial sewing machines and start up a factory

I have been in a relationship similar to this. It can really take a toll on you. I would say that if you want to see your family then no one should hold you back. You need to be in control of what you wish to do. It is in your best interest to talk about your feelings with him so that he understands that your unhappy. I believe you can work together to get through this!
