Codependency is defined as someone who exhibits too much, and often inappropriate, caring for another person's struggles. A codependent person may try to change, or feel shame about their most private thoughts and feelings if they conflict with the other person's struggles. It's not because I'm actually watching a person. I don't actually think of person as actually someone I want to get to know, watch, fixat on nor socialize w. I might watch how they do a work out on certain units.
Haveing wrote that I must also say include that some people have anxiety that may cause them to think/feel that people watch n/or stare at them. People who have BP illness may think n feel the same.
Google Zumba. some sites offer free work outs ( watch on computer or tv ) n for $ ,work out DVD's. Both being at home work outs.
Good news is that you have a gym that you enjoy n another building to work out/dance at n you also enjoy.
U are lucky to have 2 places that u enjoy.
Now stop eatting beans or cabbage befor u go to gym n put your cloths bk on,lol
One is that I some times go to my local Senior Center and one day I was walking through the hallway and I heard people inside so I looked into the open door as I walked by so I saw it was the Yoga class. Then later when I walked back out the same hallway the door was closed, and weeks later then months later the door is never left open ever again, and obviously the door is shut because one time I just happened to turn my head and look inside for about one second as I walked past the door.
The Senior Centers offers free Yoga to all seniors so it must have men and women mixed together even though I did not see if that was so or not.
Now I give this some thought and there are people who get up on a stage and even on TV and dance and jig and all sorts of stunts and activities, as like "American Idol" and "The X Factor" on TV and those people are amateurs who must have overcome whatever their feelings because they do perform with lots of people looking at them big time.
I have got in front of an audience before just to speak and I liked doing that, but I would never want to do any fancy dancing or Yoga or such in front of anyone.
It seems to me that people are always watching, and people watch even when they pretend that they are not watching, and really it seems only sensible for people to look at us just as we too look at other people.
How to fix the problem for your self - I have no idea how.
Sorry I am at this a bit late,, but I totally understand your feeling. My sister and I chose an all female gym, Healthy Habits, because we wanted to work out without the male/female stuff going on.
Some of us do feel exposed when working out, and sometimes it is nice to be just around women without any of the sexual tension that can happen with male/female things. I think those feelings are not unusual (or at least we felt the same way) and I would venture to guess that many other women feel that way as well.
There are times when Coed is great, in some organizations I like the higher percentage of men, but there are times when being around just women puts a different spin on things (in a good way). I would suspect that the female-only facilities have cropped up in response to making females as comfortable as possible when they might feel vulnerable.
Hugs,
Shar
Glad there are others who feel the same too.. Thanks Shar...
Cheryt - When i am on treadmill i usually read a book or listen to audible i have no time to look at others.....Also like i said i love myself and i have no self esteem issues regards to how i look neither do i compare myself or intimidated by people who are muscular or who are chubbier... Each one is different ....
Spoke to my therapist about same and she said and I agree that its okay for me choose what is comfortable for me and it has nothing to do with self esteem issues...
She also mentioned that women fitness gyms have been designed for that reasons that women feel more comfortable compared to commercial gyms which can be overwhelming to women.
Thx for your comments ...
Glad you found a place that is warm, fuzzy and comfortable! Unless there are lesbians there, you should be golden.
