Codependency Support Group
Codependency is defined as someone who exhibits too much, and often inappropriate, caring for another person's struggles. A codependent person may try to change, or feel shame about their most private thoughts and feelings if they conflict with the other person's struggles. If you are on a journey towards self-love, this support group is for you. Join us and find others...

Like you, I am detaching with love from my kids and accepting their choices and limitations and personality quirks. I no longer chase them to make them love me better. I love them from afar while also recognizing who they are and what they are. Like you are doing with your mom. They are walking the path in life that they need for their own soul's journey. I am walking my path. Letting go of trying to make others change is the end of our codependency, I agree. Not needing them to be different so we don't have to do our own internal work.
Even good people get sucky parents and even good parents get sucky children.
So many therapists now advise to dump all the toxic people from one's life. This is somewhat true or helpful but it doesn't give the person tools to deal with the nefarious ones we meet all our lives. (Of course I am not advising anyone who is the victim of abuse to continue contact with that abuser.) How does one stay strong within one's own value and recognize user or abusive behaviors? When others say we are the bad one but really, we are the victim. I think you are a good daughter. Realistic and becoming your own best friend. Take care of yourself. Mother yourself, as you are doing. We experience a rebirth of sorts when our healing starts.
