Because
1. I dont want to feel what i am feeling
2. Familiarity of Unknown
3. No Support
4. No self Identity
I started my recovery by reading lot of Codependency books and Articles and regularly attending meetings and therapy. Its not easy it felt like i would die but eventually Journal became my best friend...I started writing everything and anything... Had a support group to reach to ... Developed interests and groups and kept myself occupied...
Set some goals if 30, 60, 90 days NC then you will pamper yourself with something .. That really helped. My therapist recommended for me to NC for 6 months .... I took the challenge..
First step is to accept and it takes lot of courage ... There will be setbacks, There will be lot of feelings take one day at a time.
Something i got from recovery that helped me whenever i had a feeling that i cant let go.
LETTING GO TAKES LOVE
To let go does not mean to stop caring,
it means I can't do it for someone else.
To let go is not to cut myself off,
it's the realization I can't control another.
To let go is not to enable,
but allow learning from natural consequences.
To let go is to admit powerlessness, which means
the outcome is not in my hands.
To let go is not to try to change or blame another,
it's to make the most of myself.
To let go is not to care for,
but to care about.
To let go is not to fix,
but to be supportive.
To let go is not to judge,
but to allow another to be a human being.
To let go is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes,
but to allow others to affect their destinies.
To let go is not to be protective,
it's to permit another to face reality.
To let go is not to deny,
but to accept.
To let go is not to nag, scold or argue,
but instead to search out my own shortcomings and correct them.
To let go is not to adjust everything to my desires,
but to take each day as it comes and cherish myself in it.
To let go is not to criticize or regulate anybody,
but to try to become what I dream I can be.
To let go is not to regret the past,
but to grow and live for the future.
To let go is to fear less and love more
and
To let go and to let God, is to find peace !
If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take you both to get through all of this? I know everybody is different, I just feel like I am on this codependent roller coaster and feel like it will never end.
I hope you can eventually add being gentle with yourself to that list too :) That is a very important one too! And give yourself credit for the awareness and progress that you have made already!
My thoughts are with you- it is tough stuff. Give yourself time- it took a life time to learn these habits, it is going to take some time to break them. Take care of yourself :)
I definitely am not focused on myself right now...I know I have taken the right steps, but it so early on, nothing is really sinking in yet, I mean, I understand what I am going through, but the changes are not there yet. The only thing I am feeling right now is the loss of the relationship. The overwhelming sadness and yearning to talk to him. I wish I didn't feel this way, he was so unbelievably mean to me, and doesn't understand his issues and blames me for everything, but I am still yearning for the contact and keep checking multiple times throughout the day to see if he has tried. It's really tough.
It's just a long, hard process, and I feel like it is all uphill. It is had to refocus myself when it is all I can think about.

That said, Harder....I feel like we are living the same life. And it sucks. truly. And I cant explain it either bc I know I deserve better - - in reality there is nothing he brings that is positive....but I do not know how to let go....I just put up a new post about some stuff that happened today, but you arent alone in how you are feeling bc i am literally and exactly in the same place. I'm sorry I dont have advice to offer, but you are in no way alone. And I hope we can both figure this out and move on. Because even though tonight I was meant to feel otherwise, we are not bad. And we do deserve good. Be well...xLAG
I was there. They strip you of your identity so you cling to them to fill you back up.
Stay NC for good. Don't look back. Get into therapy. One day, you'll know how to only be with a man who treats you like you truly deserve to be treated... as long as you believe it, too.
Wow, what u said really hit home. I feel like that is where I am at right now. I can go a few days NC then I get sad and depressed and want nothing more than some kind of communication from him. I hate that I want contact and I hate that I want it from him. I'm in therapy and coda but sometimes the yearn is so powerful and overwhelming I don't know what to do and just sink deeper into sadness :(
