Codependency Support Group
Codependency is defined as someone who exhibits too much, and often inappropriate, caring for another person's struggles. A codependent person may try to change, or feel shame about their most private thoughts and feelings if they conflict with the other person's struggles. If you are on a journey towards self-love, this support group is for you. Join us and find others...
It doesn't mean I don't react or don't have a conversation with them. Over time, I'm learning how to use critical thinking before I stick my foot in my mouth or "step into the pothole."
My aunt explained to me about the pothole theory. It goes something like this: "How are you? Have you found a job yet?" (that's presenting the pothole) "I'm feeling down. I'm really struggling to find my way." (that's stepping into the pothole) "Well, you know, it's your own damn fault!" (and there it is, getting slammed & falling down into their trap).
So next time a pothole is offered (eg. high school), skirt around it. Redirect the conversation. And if you can't, you can always elect not to say a thing in response. Or just say, "I'm doing just fine!"
These are toxic people. The less you are involved with them, the less you'll feel rejected.
