Tell me there's hope!

Hi everyone. Thank you all so much for your repies to my last discussion." Is There Anything Left to Try" Well I'm looking for more feedback regarding what has recently played out. I'll try and keep it short and to the point as much as I can. Here it goes...My husband called me tonight and reached out for the first time. Not regarding his addiction but how much he wants his family back. Last week I had sought out counseling for myself and to try and find a counselor for the both of us. All in the hopes of getting my husbands foot in the door. I'm not a fool. I do not believe that marriage counseling is necessarily the answer for us right now. The man we are gonna meet with will have only the heads up about his addiction, nomore. My husband claims that he will do everything it takes and for how ever long. We'll see. I guess what I want to know is this a good place to start, even if he's doing it for me and his son and not really acknowleging the real issues yet? My hopes for right now are that he follow through and start opening up to someone...NOT ME! He has agreed to do whatever the counselor advises. If he does not...there will be NO US to even try and salvage. I also told him that he must seek one on one counseling for himself. Am I way off base here or can he turn his life around? He is such a prideful man to a fault and needs someone to guide him other than myself. I want to be supportive but he's got to find himself in all of this. I guess that's my question. Do you think he may be able to find himself, this way?

Counseling won't help because all an addict does in counseling is talk about the problem, THEMSELVES! A broken mind can't fix a broken mind. Addiction is not something a person can think their way out of no matter how great the necessity, resolution, or wish. Our thinking has to change or we'll always use again. The course of action that works for many addicts is 90 meetings in 90 days (C.A. or A.A.), getting a sponsor, and working the steps (all of them) and completing them in 90 days. Just going to meetings don't do a damn thing. Then, hopefully clean time and being willing to grow will heal old wounds. But unless a person is clean, all forms of self improvement are worthless. Another thing that may help him is a prescription for provigil prescribed off label for cocaine addiction. Do a google search on provigil for cocaine addiction. People say it acts as a blocker in the brain to prevent cocaine from getting a person from getting high and helps with cravings. I've never used it but other people have with success.

Reaching out is a big step. Keep in mind that this may be his real cry for help. My advise may be an outpatient program for addiction, aa. of course and family therapy. You also have to have yourself together. If he says he will do whatever it takes, have him call me. I lost it all because of my addiction. I can maybe talk to him and explain to him my course of action. It worked for me. it was too late for me on the family front, but your husband may be able to salvage his life. I would recommend that he does. If he is willing, I will talk to him asap....

I think it's a good start for you and him but I do think he needs to reach out and find some help for himself AA,NA or CA like bill W said he needs to do the 90 meetings in 90 days days and get a sponsor. He needs someone to talk to other then you it will take time . Like I said it's a good start. God Bless

Bill W. speaks the truth...an addicts mind has been so twisted from their drug use, you cannot trust anything they say. So watch his actions closely, you say he is very prideful, unfortunately false pride will kill an addict, cause it keeps him from asking for help and being willing to take suggestions. Here is a quote from the big book of AA ([page 25) "Almost none of us liked the self-searching, the leveling of our pride, the confession of shortcomings which the process requires for its successful comsummation." Recovery groups, AA, CA, NA, serve the purpose of pier group counceling, the group supports an addict in this process of untwisting his mental obsession for cocaine, or whatever his drug of choice is, because it owns his mind. His actions of being willing to do something different to stay clean will tell you if he's serious about getting sober and staying sober. My prayers are with you on this journey

Hi growing, good news, there is hope if he did not smoke cocain, i did it for 20 years and it was on and off. it is not adictive, only mentaly adictive, the smoking of crack makes if physicaly adictive. my personal experiances showed that crack users could quit for a while, but always go back, but cocain is not the same, if he loves you and his kids he will get out of it, easilly.

When I was active I told anyone what they wanted to hear for them to accept me. I told my family countless times how I needed help and I couldnn't do it with out them. Wrong answer the only way I got clean is I had the battle of my life with myself. I reached out to my church and NA on my own. I continue to go to meetings and church and I believe in my heart and soul this is what keeps me clean for another day. You and your family will be in my prayers.
