His expectations are not your issue.You really do have concentrate on yourself,your feelings and your recovery.You stated you knew it wouldn't work between you,and that basically you opted to remain friends.He is holding on to hopes otherwise and that is his jealousy .
We do tend to base our feelings about ourselves on how we think others feel about us.All I can say is that those misconceptions will pass.Try not to concentrate on his feelings,they are his,not yours.
Light a candle,turn out the lights and talk to whatever you believe in.You will feel better in the morning.You may even find a way of satisfying both parties without punishing yourself for being human.
