Cirrhosis Support Group
Cirrhosis is a consequence of chronic liver disease, most commonly caused by alcoholism and hepatitis C. Ascites is the most common complication of cirrhosis and is associated with a poor quality of life, increased risk of infections, and a poor long term outcome. Liver damage from cirrhosis cannot be reversed, but treatment can stop or delay further progression and...
Gallbladder is in the lower left quadrant.
The pain your husband went through sounds awful, hope he's doing better. Many people who have heart attacks also feel pain in their left arm or chest because the main nerves going down the left side carry the pain signals from your heart, left arm, etc.
The medical term is referred pain, which may often have nothing to do with where the pain is really coming from, the signals just happen to be carried along the same nerves.
Directly from an anatomy/physiology book explaining the gallbladder, "This muscular sac is located in a fossa, or recess, in the posterior surface of the liver's right lobe".
More towards the middle as you said, not on the left side.
C Dif is caused by a bacteria but it is more common when using antibiotics because the antibiotics just set the stage for you to pick up that bug....
After that surgery and development of C Dif (twice) I was eating exclusively yogurt 4 times a day. Yogurt and water.....I was so very, very sick. That was before I found out about my liver disease. Like I said earlier, I think that massive infection (a type of septicemia) in part, caused my liver problem although doctors would rather it "alcohol" related (although I was a wine drinker in moderation) and the medications and experimental medications they were trying for my dystrophy. So, whatever they want to call it is fine with me I suppose. ( I remember the pain from my dystrophy being so bad (the muscles all drew up and atrophied) that I would take Tylenol Extra Strength by the handsful. Nothing helped but a glass of wine seemed to help me sleep if only for an hour or so.)
So, it was probably inevitible for me to get this liver disease.
To this day, I HATE yogurt! Sometimes, I have to eat it but not something I do on a regular basis anymore.
Hope you all are doing better. (Wilbur, so good to see your posts.....we missed you when you took that little "vacation" from the forum site.)
Hugs and prayers everyone..........CarolLentz
