Not to be indelicate - but WHERE have you noticed this? breath? body? anywhere else in particular? I mention this only because I have heard of a "fruity" breath that supposedly can be a symptom of liver disorder -

oh my goodness, I sit here laughing my head off...I truly walked into that one... I guess it's bodily, I've noticed it a couple of times so its not constant, weird also when I go pee pee I give the tissue the old scratch and sniff and I could smell it lightly but its there...plus my urine is so yellow almost orange/yellow.. I don't even bother with my doc like I've stated b-4 I am in the process of looking for a liver spclst.. I'm due for my yearly sono we'll see I stay laughing and joking because I don't want to get down in the dumps been there done that and I refuse to let myself go there!!

about how much water do you drink daily? becaiuse bright yellow (or even orangey) pee pee can also be caused by insufficient fluids and/or vitamin pills (assuming that you're taking some of those too) -

Senor Pugdaddy, I stopped taking vitamins because my doctor told me to be careful with the vitamins.. Do you take vitamins... or natural supplements? I've noticed that many of the DS family take some type of supplement..

Just wanted to let you know that sometimes bright yellow/orange urine can also be because of build up of bilirubin.

I am not surprised your doctor advised you not to take any supplements. Unfortunately, most doctors don't have a clue about nutrition. IIt is not taught in medical school. I would strongly advise you to see a naturopath to find out about any vitamin/mineral deficiencies you have (it is virtually impossible to get all of the vitamins and minerals we need from our diet). In my experience, this is crucial because any disease we might have, not just cirrhosis, is impacted negatively if we are vitamin/mineral deficient. Yes, there are some vitamins and minerals that are hard on the liver in high dosages, vitamin A and iron come to mind, but the bulk, especially D3, all of the Bs, vitamin C, selenium, all of the antioxidants, are crucial. In addition I take SAM-E and milk thistle. My doctor is amazed how well I am doing in contrast to his other patients who are at the same stage of the disease. So, please educate yourself and see someone with expertise in this area. After all, the license on your doctor's wall says that he is only "practicing".

I have noticed that sweet smell from time to time as well. I also increase my intake of plain water when urine looks too dark. Dark urine first thing in the morning is usually not a concern but it should become lighter throughout the day as you drink water. Sometimes caffeinated beverages will cause urine to be dark or "rich" as my doctor called it. I would definitely have the bilirubin checked as well. Are you noticing orange or yellowing of skin or eyes? Also, on hands particularly knuckles will sometimes appear dark or yellowed when the bilirubin is up. An indication of liver disease as you know.

My husband notices a sweet, musty odor on my breath as well from time to time especially during episodes of mild to severe HE. That was the first indication to him that something was wrong the first time he noticed it on my breath. Doctor said it is the amonia build up......that is the definite odor. Husband says he doesn't notice an odor any other time. I told him that "If I start stinkin' you better tell me!" He just laughs and reminds me that he will be sure to tell me via phone call because he doesn't want to be around anywhere close to me when he brazenly says, "You are beginning to stink"............After 41 years that wouldn't be a good thing. @Carol, your funny, I luv it...:0) do you take xifaxan for the he, does it help, any side effects, and if you do take it how long does it take for the woozies to go away :0) I have been in a mental fog as of late.. me no like-EE the xifax gives me horible headaches.. but I will give it another go.. love and peace to you and yours..

Hi again.......No, I don't take the Xifaxan. I take only Lactulose twice daily. I hate it but it seems to be doing a pretty good job warding off the HE. I don't seem to have any of the bathroom issues like most have talked about. The Lactulose keeps me regular but I don't have the constant need to seek a potty. I do have issues from taking the diuretics........I pee all the time!!!!!!! When we go out to eat or shopping, first thing I do is locate the little potty room. I have to go every morning at 7:00 a.m. like clock work......Unfortunately, I don't get up until 9:00! (heeheehee)......Just kidding!

Don't know what it is today, but I am in a pretty good mood. Got to spend the morning with my 39 year old son......just some me and he time. Always a good thing. He keeps me in stitches LMAO!
We have always said "there are commedians and then, there's Davey!" Such a blessing and joy.
