Are you taking a Magnesium supplement? Since you are on the water pills, taking 500 mg or more should help. Ask your doctor or a nutrionist about what amount would be beneficial to you. Just enough to make your stools loose (another benefit if you ever get constipated).
Is your cramps in your calf? I know when I get them, I pull my feet/toes towards me and this relaxes the muscle instantly. I wear socks to bed too (heat does help). You can heat up a sock filled with rice and it will keep your hands or feet toasty for awhile or take a heating pad to bed with you or invest in an electric blanket just for you:-)
I am glad you got one good night of sleep! I hope you are feeling better. What do you feel has helped you the most?
Hope we all feel better i guess we didnt know how good we had it :)
Cramps for me usually begin in the top of my foot/feet and once I get it on one side, it usually goes to the other side as well. The cramp starts and moves up to the top of my thigh. My foot/ankle is "fused" with plate and screws so I can't bring my toes upward to help pull the cramped muscle straight again. It is so strange to see my feet actually "drawing downward" through no effort of my own.
Also, with cramps coming on in my hands and arms as well, I can move my fingers upward to help massage the cramp out.
Thanks for all your suggestions. I hope anyone else who was experiencing this cramping problem has found help/relief as well.
You guys are all great! Hugs and prayers.......CarolLentz
These cramps are actually among the most painful things I have ever experienced.
I have started taking religiously again, the calcium and the complex vitamins as well as a Tums once in a while for the magnesium.
My doctor recommended "Tonic Water" with quinine but, upon researching the use of quinine for muscle cramps, I find that it can do a lot of harm to anyone with blood platelet issues............so........next time I visit with my liver specialist, I want to ask him about that again.
I love flavored seltzer water because it is not sweet at all and I think it really tastes good so I thought the tonic water might be the same sort of drink. "If it ain't one thing, it's another" as my Granny used to say!
Hugs and prayers and best wishes for a healthful and happy weekend!
