I had a liver transplant in July, 2010. My many years of Hepatitis C had finally led to early Cirrhosis and a cancerous tumor (hepatocellular carcinoma). I was 65 years old them. Within a year, the Hep C was back stronger than ever in my new liver.
I am now on the new Hep C treatments, Sovaldi and Olysio. After 4 weeks of the treatments, the virus was undetected in my system. I'm now almost finished with the first 6 weeks with 6 more weeks of treatments left. Almost a year ago, the fibrosis was at stage 2-3. So if I haven't already advanced to cirrhosis in my new liver, things are good. I won't know about the possibility of cirrhosis until I have my annual MRI in July.

hi I don't know if the tumor is cancerous my gi said there was cirrhosis and he said there was like lesions of some kind the didn't know only an specialist would know but he said he was going to get them to put me on the transplant list and I would be hearing somethjng from them in the next couple of weeks

Hi Angeleyes. I wish you the best. I'm new to this but when I was told I needed a liver transplant, there was a whole evaluation process. One week of medical and psychological testing and a financial evaluation. All this info was than submitted to a transplant board of MD's who will make the final decision. I'm not sure this is what everyone has to go through, but you should check with your Dr. to determine the process. To me it was not a scary process, but one of knowledge and reassurance, as they were very helpful and informative through the whole process.

yes, I had to go through 3 days of evaluations and tests, then I got the news a few days later that I was accepted on the list. angeleyes, I would make darn sure that your lesions are indeed cancer before I would be put on the transplant. In fact, that probably will have to be verified through biopsy or MRI before you are considered anyway.
I had my transplant 3 months after I was put on the list, because the cancer started me out high on the list.

hi marilyn I'm not sure if it is cancerous i will be seeing an liver specialist soon. tues 6-10 i have to have an upper endoscopy i may not be able to have an liver transplant even if i need one because i have asthma which is deep in my lungs i have other health issues I'm just going to leave it in Gods hands . i pray you are doing better Marilyn i beleave in the healing of prayer maybe not always in body we are healed but in spiritual healing for God saids he will never leave us or for sake us for those who beleave .

Angel, How are you doing with the wait for confirmation on those lesions?
Its hard to think of anything else when the unknown seems to control out future, LOL. It always does, doesn't it? Do you have friends & family near by to support you through this?

hi trisso1 thank you for yours and others support you are so right about the not knowing and the waiting it's the same old feeling I have been getting when I first found out I had hepc I found this site and there is a lot of wonderful people on this site I have been a member since 2008 I started treatments of rib and interferon .I started on 9-11-2008 I met my best friend on this site we supported each other he passed away 2 yrs ago thyroid cancer he gave such an hard fight he also had hepc and cirrhosis we started about the same time he responded well cleared the hepc virus .we talked everyday either on the computer or phone I really miss him .I have family friends that are just a blessing to me . i received an call wed. from unc hospital the nurse said they wanted to see me soon as they could and they wanted me to pick up the original disk of my mri so of course i am very concerned i will be going to the main hospital mon . and then tues i have to go for an endoscopy . i ;m just going to leave everything in Gods hands and pray for good results

Dear angel, I keep you in my thoughts

You will be in my thoughts and prayers as well. It is tough when folks find out that they are sick and dealing with the possibility of transplant. I know it surely took me by surprise when I went to the ER with what I thought was a gall bladder attack and found out that it was pancreatitis and gall stones that were lodged in the ducts. Then, they told me I had 60% of my liver non functioning due to cirrhosis. Wow. Tough pill to swallow.

Like most of the folks on this forum, we think about and pray for each other. I am convinced that is the best medicine one can have.
