someone from the Cirrhosis group recommended AARP, they are a couple and both have insurance with AARP... but you have to be 50 and over I have another year to go....

Well, my Billy is 51. He qualifies but I don't, I'm only 43. I will look into AARP and keep searching.

Good luck with AARP. I'm 52 and they've been sending me stuff for years, yet everytime I apply, they reject me, saying I'm to young.

I'll try again, maybe I can actually talk to somebody who can fix things.

My husband is 51 and we are trying for Colonial Penn. We have the paperwork and it has NO health questions. It is limited but it is something.

Clovers, it really depends on what you are looking for...there are a great many things that fall under the general umbrella of the term "life insurance." Colonial Penn (and similar companies, as I understand them) are very much a small segment of this financial industry - they typically amount to burial insurance, hence the reference in their TV ads to "final expenses." And there's typically at least a two-year waiver - i.e., the insured must live at least two years for there to be any payout at all.
The unfortunate reality (and goodness knows that I hate to be discouraging to anyone in this community) is that life insurance companies exist to make money...period. Regardless of what their TV ads tell us, they typically have little if any interest in insuring sick people. If they write any policy for you, the premiums will be disproportionally high.
I'd suggest that instead, you find a trusted and experienced independent insurance agent (not beholden to any one company), explain your situation in detail to him or her - and see if they can help you. I certainly hope that they can - and I wish you well -

I am sure that one has to be 55 or older to "qualify" to be a member of AARP. They sent me letters for years as well but I did not qualify. I think they were going by the fact that my husband was in his 60's and an AARP member.

As for life insurance, are you interested in having end of life expenses covered (or partially covered) or are you looking for a policy that you can draw against in time? If you are looking for one that you can draw against at sometime in the future, I doubt you will find one that will take you on. As for end of life final expenses, then Colonial Penn is the one that comes to mind first.

If you are looking for a plan to help cover end of life expenses (burial, etc.) then you might find that consulting with a reputable funeral home/director would be an option. I believe some have plans where a person can choose a plan and pay on it long before the service is needed. Sounds sort of morbid but many older folks opt for this way of doing it so that there are no questions as to how their final expenses are "done"..........

It is unfortunate for us in this serious disease category that we cannot be offered the same options such as health and life insurance as anyone else but, like pugdaddy said, insurance is a money making proposition.......that is the bottom line. Chances are good (almost certain) that someone like us will "cost" the company more money than they could ever hope to make off of us.

Let's just pray that this election coming up puts a person into office that will find a way for this insurance mess will be "fixed". I realize that not everyone wants a blanket "insurance option for everybody, but, I do think that an option that allows those of us who have no other way can and will have reasonable access to the insurance that we need, is a worthwhile goal. This is the wealthiest country in the world and to think that citizens have to worry about dying because we don't have insurance is truly not acceptible in my opinion.

We can "help" everyone else world wide but cannot do anything to take care of our own. Sad..........
