identify yellow fingers

My grandaughter had kidney stones a few weeks ago(she is only 20 yrs.) and she has called me this afternoon to ask what would make her fingers yellow. (No she does not smoke). She seemed concerned and I wasn't sure how to answer;so I have come here to inquire.

Yellowing skin is often be a sign of jaundice.

If the eye whites (looking under the eyelids) are getting a yellow tint, then you should call a doctor, or get her blood tested at a hospital asap.

There could be many causes, but the key is to get it treated as soon as possible. Especially in young a woman, I would imagine they would want to check for auto-immune hepatitis, which is quite treatable.

I don't knowyour grandaughters medical condition,but I type in a medical condition on the computer and see where it sends me. If she has cirrhosis ..is she yellow anywhere else? If she has liver issues,jaundice can certianly be a symptom of liver problems. It may seem strange,but I never noticed my hubby's coloring until we walked out the hospital one day and saw that he was practically golden from jaundice( he has cirrhosis of course.)

Thanks for your reply. I of course took her to the doc the next day. It turns out to be nothing that a blood work up indicated. The doc did not seem alarmed and it has not reoccured.

I had jaundice once about five years ago when things were really bad. I was frightfully yellow, especially my eyes. Thankfully it cleared up after a week or so.

It happened so fast never noticed if it started in my fingers and progressed.

Anyhow, as others have mentioned, get into see a doctor. It may be something benign that clears up on its own, but have somebody who knows check it out.

Just noticed I'm a little behind on this post. Glad you got her to a doctor and hopefully won't happen again.
