Hernia

I have a large, sometimes painful always uncomfortable unbilical hernia. I wouls like to have it repaired but my TP Doctor (I'm not on the list yet) discourages me from having surgery. Ayone have any experience with this? Did you have surgery? Thanks for any help

The reason they are discouraging you is that any scar tissue makes transplant surgery more difficult.
I too had a hernia that I put up with for years. It went down into my scrotum (sorry) and was the size of a large grapefruit. The transplant doctors kept saying just live with it. It got to the point where I could barely walk uphill or stairs. I hopped into a golf cart one day and ended up sitting on it. Damn near killed me.
I finally went to see the surgeon who had done my colonectomy at the same institution as my transplant drs. The resident came in took one look said I'll be right back. Surgeon came in took one look opened up here book and said be here next Thursday at 6AM we will fix that.

Yes,my hubby also has a hernia. His surgeon told him because of hubby's weakened state that he wouldn't operate because hubby wouldn't make it out of the hospital. The doctor got the "wife look" and then he told hubby he probably wouldn't make it out of the hospital. The doctor said because of hubby's acities,if he did the surgery the fluid from the acities would continue to drain through the insension(sp) and would be very,very hard to heal. There are probably many different factors why they hesitate tooperate as another reason which eed mentioned. I just thought I'd tell you whats and whys hubby's doctor gae. Does yours keep you from stairs and walking long distances like hubby's does?

Had one done this last March my hepatologist was concerned that it was caused by ascites. Lifted my last big water heater 3 yrs earlier. Mine was also a repair?
