The simplest thing to try first is drinking more water. It is not a fun thing to do when one has ascites, but if he's taking dieretics I would bet that is the problem. Also for me because I have slowly gotten so far out of shape through years of liver disease any repetitive or over use of muscles causes cramps and lock up.
The waist line thing sucks. None of my clothes fit, no pair of pants is comfortable my waste size has increased 4 inches and the rest of my body has shrunk to where I am completely out of proportion.

Have the drs check his potassium levels. My man has to take extra potassium because of the loop diuretics. My man likes sweat pants. When we need to dress up a bit he wears jeans (relaxed fit) that I have taken up on the buttocks and legs. He has several sizes of jeans for different stages of acites, before and after paracentisis. I buy his jeans at thrift stores, the usual price is $1.00-$2.00. Makes things easier on the budget. I hope things get better. Keep us posted.

Hubby wears suspenders.(sp?) What a lifesaver! They keep the pants up yet don't bind around the belly. I NEVER thought I'd see him in a pair of suspenders!!But he took to them like a duck in water. He wears them with jeans or sweat pants. At this point he only cares about comfort. He puts on a tee shirt first,then suspenders,then a shirt over the tee shirt. Not many people even notice he's wearing them.

That suspenders is a great idea! I knw for us gals maternity clothes have worked for me. More stylish than sweats. Some of the new blouses I have seen for spring have that loose maternity look anyway but the pants must have the elastic belly. Fluid doesnt give like fat...you cant squeeze into stuff. But you guys know that.

Sweat pants.....big baggy sweat pants!! Serious been thinking about bib overalls.

I am with kphelps with the women and the pregnant cloths if you want to wear something besides sweats.

With acites it seems you have to go several sizes larger to be comfortable. I believe the fluid retention does build more in the stomach but some tight things can make it worse. I found instead of trying to fight keeping jeans up getting lower cut jeans that go more around the hip than the waist helped until I got bigger. sssshhhhh I did buy one pair of suspenders. When I was working I could wear then outside they kind of fit in with my work but if I wanted to wear pregnant jeans with a nicer loose top I got so big I would wear the suspenders but under the top. A guy gets away with suspenders and they do work.

Papaya is good for stomack cramps. You can buy it as the fruit or they have a papaya supplement for upset or cramping stomachs. When I get light cramps it has helped but not sure if papaya will work for more extreme ones.

Sweat pants I was up to 230 but I'm back down to 213 My normal weight was 207 for the longest time

My doctor told me to take Magneisum,Zinc, Clacium w/D for the leg cramps, I have terrible trouble with my legs and feet//// BlueEyed
