Hmmm. The medicine you are taking may not be strong enough. Perhaps your doc, and I am NOT a doc, could have weened you off of norco and up'd your methadone. My understanding of methadone, and you can ask a pharmacist, is that it is used in place of other narcotic medicines and is similar to morphine. I know it's a low dose, but this is necessary because you are taking other narcs and methadone with increase? the effects of them since they are in your system. I would get a second opinion for sure!

I trust my pain doc, shes been doing it for yrs, so no need for 2nd opinion. But just wondered if anyone had heard of this or tried this combo?

i take that exact amout of methadone and it works beutifully, give it up to 2 weeks to build up in your system. i also take norco for breakthru pain. take your norco to manage your pain until it has time to build up.
no matter what don't double your dose or take more your methadone more frequently than you should, it can cause respitory depression hrs even days after you did it because of its long half life.
when i started my methadone i thought the same thing you did, the first week was horrible my pain was outta control but after day 7 i was a whole new person! and ever since my pain has been so much better. how long have you been on it? i really hope this works on your pain as much as it has worked on mine. if you have any questions feel free to ask me, i know the good and the bad and will be honest. take care

also you can take methadone for baseline pain and continue taking your norco for breakthru pain. methadone is to be taken on a schedual everyday do not skip doses of your methadone even if you feel good.stay ahead of the pain. its not a good abortive medication, it absorbes very slowly and controls pain anywhere from 6-24 hrs

You might be in too low of a Methadone dosage, but she is titrating you slowly like is supposed to be done, so when you get to higher amounts of Methadone, you should be feeling much better.
I currently take 80 Mg's of Methadone (I have been on it for 2 years), and Dilaudid 4 Mg's for break through pain. This combination works wonderful for me, maybe trying to wheen off the Norco and going into something else might help you better.
Wait and see how you do with a higher dosage of Methadone, and go from there. Good luck Hun. It sounds like you have a good Doctor, and I know how hard those are to find!

NO pills work for me, but don't push yourself with the meds too hard. Sometimes opiates just don't work as I found out. My body just doesn't like them so what's the sense in taking something that doesn't work? Too much internal damage is caused in my opinion, but everyone needs an aid of some sort with CP so do your best and remember, the mind is a powerful tool and happiness of any kind a great internal band aid. :)

My pain is also worse at night.

It may make more sense to have a stronger dose of long-acting opioid and only 1 short-acting opioid. You may also need a muscle relaxer, if you become a "tin person" at night, like I often do.

Most docs will start you on a conservative dosage and move you up, if it seems to have merit. I would tell him that it works a wee bit, but the dose is too low.

Drive with all of what????!!! My Methadone? Honey, I do not get impaired AT ALL on Methadone! I do not get sleepy, drowsy, dizzy, nothing! Is just like I have taken an Advil, with the only difference, that it takes care of my pain very well. It doesn't give me a feeling of euphoria like other opiods did, so I can drive and take my meds with no problem whatsoever.

As far as constipation goes, like I have mention before, Pro-Biotics, Pro-Biotics, Pro-Biotics! If you take Pro-Biotics daily, drink lots of water and have a balance diet, opiods will not constipate you, they do not constipate me! So the word for the day is; Pro-Biotics!

I recommend maybe trying medical marijuana. They have lots of forms, if you don't like the smoking technique.

Chipchip I have to agree with lladyfair and rayroof about your comment to Tipper. That was pretty harsh. Why would you say something like that to Tipper? She's been nothing but supportive to people on here. I've taken Methadone before and yes you can drive on them. Can we please try to show just a tad bit of human compassion on this forum? Am I asking to much?
