Oh my goodness Boxer that's such an impersonal way to tell you. My dad has had numerous basil cells. He lost 1/2 of his ear due to skin cancer. I hope I don't have that gene from him. So far so good but I've abused my skin most of my life not realizing what could happen down the road.

I had mole removed and within 7 days it had cancer cells growing, my Dr wrote out letter saying I needed to see him asap.

Geesh that's a heck of a way to find out :0 Perhaps you're right about the CYA - is it possible they tried to call but couldn't get you so they did this instead? I think it stinks they left it up to a letter - that's just indecent, IMO. Where's the compassion in that, or the ability to ask a question... And how do they know how this news would affect you? Gosh medicine is becoming more and more impersonal. I'm sorry this happened. Definitely tell the doc about it. Does it say if it's basal cell or melanoma? Maybe give a call tomorrow and see if the appt should be changed to a procedure. No use wasting time on an appt for results when you already have them :0 Hope it all works out! Raggedy

OMG, I am sorry and I wonder why they would do that as it was already certified so all they had to say was we need you to call the office ASAP. Plus like you said you had a visit already scheduled why would they do that I would ask them and tell them they suck.

Sorry they were so impersonable to you. Maybe it is because you have dealt with this before, but still it doesn't justify it. Be sure to tell your dr about it at your appt.

Were you available by phone or cell? That would be the only reason to send a cert letter...or at least that is why we did when I worked in md offices in Cali....yes it is a cya....but it also jumpstarts your battery and shocks you into calling right away...On this one, I am on the fence...but like everyone else, we have your back!

I think it's awful and I would say something about it to the Dermatologist about how uncaring it makes his office appear. It's inconsiderate and rude when it's something so serious.

Send 'em back a certified letter stating how disturbing it was to be informed in that manner...they hate it if we do the CYA thing :-)

I wish they had tried to call and I had the biopsy Monday and got the certified letter Friday. I thought it took longer than that to get biopsy results. They have all my phone numbers AND they have an iphone APP that I have and could have contacted me through that or email. For some reason that would have been better. The cert. letter just made it seem so serious. Maybe it is. My follow up is in 10 days.

How rude! At least they could call you with the results. But you're right it's probably a CYA thing. Someone probably didn't hear the right results on the phone and sued them. Or threatened to. Sorry you had to get such results like that!

i'm so sorry that your biopsy was positive and that you heard in such a crass, uncaring way. i know i always advocate writing letters and reporting, but this is definitely one case that must be reported. i would send letters to the top of the hospital he's associated with, the AMA and any other organization he's involved with and CC him.

it's just horrible that the practice of medicine has become reduced this type of dr/patient relations.

i hope you can get an earlier appt b/c you can't spare time with melanoma.
