I am living on 4hr doses of hydrocodine 5/325 due to my TKR surgery Aug. 31st....I am struggling with the ortho about getting pain meds as he feels the heat of DEA and pharmacists about prescribing opioid meds.....I do think I get another week of these....he keeps faltering on writing scripts for pain meds but an orthopedic surgeon is someone who is expected to have pateints who are in extreme pain....especially post operative pain...but he said 6weeks is about the threshold....I surely know I need to have the extreme pain relieved for more than just six weeks.....I dunno what I will do if he cuts off my medications.....not because I am addicted but because they are necessary.....

@ ItsJustMe2012. I have been on most nsaids at one time or another. I was on prescription strength naproxen for roughly 5 years but I actually thought the ibprofen worked a little bit better.

Yes! Adult ibprofen comes in 200 miligram pills but I take 4 when in pain and that works extremely well, once or twice a day, plus I have some lidocain pain patches that also help. I get the 5 miligram ones by prescription. You can get up to 4 otc but I didn't think they helped at all but the 5 work quite well.

@BobinMaine: Have you ever tried Voltaren Gel? It's a topical gel, so it's alcohol based and not sticky or creamy. It has Diclofenac (NSAID) in it and works really well on joint, back, neck pain, etc. I've used it for at least 10 years now and it helps a lot with the oral meds. It also helps with swelling. My feet swell at night and burn with nerve pain, I rub them in Voltaren and it settles down the swelling so the nerve pain isn't so severe and I can sleep.

This is what I did when the same issue arose for me. Look up a doctor that prescribes pain medicine. Just Google physicians in my area that prescribe pain meds. When you find one call the office and ask the receptionist if the doctor does Pain Management Contracts. If he does the you switch to him. Take your meds with you and show him you're already prescribed Hydrocodone.

Bio Freeze is amazing . It's only been available on the shelf for a year or so. I tell you THIS WORKS sometimes. It doesn't smell either. Call around though like I said in the previous message.
