Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

Ok so here is what happened. Hubby and I got into it this morning over the phone. I broke down in the walmart parking lot. I was unable to move and was just crying so hard I couldnt breathe. No he hasnt left me yet but he is threatening too. I keep telling myself I am young and I do not need this. Every time someone upsets me right now I break out in hives and my dr told me that was stress. My hubby after I told him that he has changed said so have you. I told him he has turned cold and mean. You know I say "I love you" and ask for hugs about a million times a day just because sometimes I need them because of my pain. He told me he misses the old me I go "ya I miss her too" honestly guys I do not even know who that person is anymore. I dont feel that I can do the things I once did before any of this. Before I worked two jobs and went to school full time. Walked or rode my bike everywhere. I did not habe the swelling in my face or tummy and achne and stretch marks that I do now ir even sometimes have to use the darned scooter in walmart.. I wish I could do all the things I once did but I just feel like a failure. My hubby has a type A personality and is very ocd "monkish" when it comes to cleaning. I just can no longer keep up. He never notices what I did but goes straight to what I didnt do. I just feel like crap and I am never never going to be good enough even if my nerves heal and we are happy I know he is going to leave me soon. The scary thing he and his family keep asking me when I am going to get the lawyer to sue the dr who did this to me. haha I dont even think I want to go through that now just because I know if he leaves me he gets money. Im not stupid. I just guys I want to scream my life im just in a deep black hole trying to get out and he isnt heping me. He couldnt stick around to talk to my dr yesterday at my appt and wouldnt go to marriage counseling with me told me it was bs. I have no one to really talk to around me except you guys but I feel like I just need a physical hug Im so lost and I need help I can not keep doing this to myself and Im thinking the best thing for hubby and I may be a trial separation I may travel the 1000 miles to see my family like my hubby told me the last time I was gone I am a burden to him and the week was the best ever while I was gone because he did not have to clean up or listen to me whine. I did for him go and fill out job apps today I doubt I cna get a job with the amount of pain im in daily heck I have a hard time just substituing for 4 hours. I wish I had my old Hubby back the one who loved me and said through thick or thin hell or high water. I feel like he doesnt deserve me and I know I am better than this but I get such anxiety about him leaving me and even when he goes to work I freak out I hate being alone with this pain and maybe that is the problem that I rely on him too much to just be here. Even on his days off this week he was never home except to sleep. He never does anything with me, and has even said he doesnt want to be around me. He doesnt say I love you back when i say it he goes yep or sighs. He even wont even guve me a real hug. I just want the old us back we were so in love at one point now like I said a big deep hole. I go to counseling, I take my antidepresants I journal and have started drawing and painting, going to the gym and knitting at the shop so I can talk to people we have weekly meetings I go too but he cannot see what I do and would rather say get a normal job and make some real friends. MOst of mine have left me because of him and my illness. I have basically no one sometimes. and Im tired of it. Who wants to come back to an empty house when your in pain? and you know he told me to get rid of the only thing that makes me happy or seems to care about me. Duncan my dog just because he is getting old and also has health probs. He told me to get rid of him because my dog was making the backyard his bathroom wtf of course he is. Im sorry I just think Im falling out of love and I blame myself for getting the IUD that caused all this the staph infection, the surgeries this year, the birth control, fentanyl scare that hey im back on. but he was never there. He still after a year of this pain has not seen my MRI or even gone to a dr visit. Dont ask me why I stay with him but I am just so afraid to be alone. Can any of you guys relate to that with your partners? Is i wrong of me to tell him that I wish to spend some time with him, tell him I need a hug or would even on my bad days not really tell him but say that I would like to curl up on the couch with him and watch a funny movie. Im scared guys I have never been more afraid he was my first everything and he is treating me like the pain is my fault and ya sure I dont clean up after myself but I try to pick things up later. Ive been crying all night ever since walmart and to top it off I still had to go in the store for my meds. I dont know how or what to do. Im sorry I just dont Im scared to be alone or to lose him but I feel like I am doing everything I can for him. Does anyone here have a job or can give me a suggestion as to what is a good position for a person with chronic pain or neuropathy? I want to do better for my husband but I also want him to remember his vows he has broken so many of them. SOrry for rambeling i had to get it out there is more but Im just to upset and I wish terribly that this was all a bad dream. I have been dreaming a lot lately that I am back in the hospital because of this illness and he is not there. maybe my mind is trying to tell me something huh like get out of this marriage now and move back home while your still young. Someone out there may love me disabilities and all. And you know I thought he did we even lived together for a year in the same house before we were married. It wasnt until after we were married that he made me feel this way. like my fmaily said the last time I went home the fire in me is gone and like my mother in law says meg we just all want that fun free spirited bubbly girl that we know is in there she had so many goals and nothing stopped her from getting them and they say I am letting my illness win when it comes to thinking of working or school. just please help advice someone to listen or a hug god I wish there was a support group near where I live but I do not know of any but I need it I know I do. thank you for listening sorry there is no good news yet but trust me I will post it when I have some right now a big black hole is where I live
I know you want your marriage to work, but it seems to me from what you wrote that your husband wants out of the marriage, you know the old saying if you love him let him go. I know you don't want to be alone, but you are alone right now even though he is there.
You need to concentrate on getting you better, and back to your old self before you can work on your marriage.
I have been married for 20 years and this pain i have defitently has effected my marriage, but it hasn't come to the place were you are, i don't know how many years you have been married but if it is under 5 years that may be making it worst, just because you dont have enough of lifes troubles to experience together yet, to be able to know how to fix things, i don't think you have any children to have that common closeness that you have to both take care of them.
if your husband doesn't want to work on it don't make him it will only make it worst, sometimes you have to let fate take its course and see where it leads you, but please take care of you first and then work on the marriage, without you there is no marriage and you need to be in that good place for it to work
please do not get me wrong, i really hope you all can work this out it might be a long road but once you have you back and feeling good about yourself the marriage will follow, i guess dont think there is any quick fixes right now
take care, and i am thinking of you hoping it all gets better

There are merit finders and fault finders. Merit finders will always look for the good in every situation. Fault finders will only find the bad and make you feel indequate. YOUR HUSBAND IS A FAULT FINDER. This is not healthy for you at all. You need all your energy to fight your illness and pain. Who knows, maybe if you didn't have to spend so much time and energy on him, you would have enough energy to go to school one day a week or sub for a day.
When I was with my loser, my pain was worse because of him always making me feel bad about it. Sure, in a way it's my fault, but in reality IT'S NOT OUR FAULT!!! I did gymnastics for many years, that's how I got the way I am today. Not by doing anything negative. You got a IUD. Tons of people get these every year, not all of them have complications. IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT. Sure, if you had known what would happen, you wouldn't have done it, duh!!! If I had known what would happen after years of gymnastics, I wouldn't have done it either!!! I would have laid by the pool getting manicures!!! You are not at fault in this situation, you are just trying to survive the best way you can.
BUT, trust me from my experience, HE IS MAKING YOUR SITUATION 100 TIMES WORSE BY DRAINING ALL YOUR ENERGY THAT COULD BE USED IN MUCH MORE POSITIVE WAYS AND USING YOUR DISABIILITY TO CONTROL YOU!!!
Do you really want an Oscar the Grouch to control you and your emotions?
So what? You move back home, gain your strong self back, and are able to focus, get back on track, and use your energy in much healthier way!!!
I said it before and I'll say it again, imagine what you could do with all your energy if you didn't spend it worrying about him leaving, getting mad about a little mess, and all the other STUPID things he does to you!!!
I have the same amount of energy now that I did when I was with my loser, BUT it's not being spent on him in negative ways. I use my energy HOW I WANT now. I use my energy to make sure I'm doing the best I can FOR ME!!! I'm in severe pain, but I can make it to school, the doctor, and work now more than I did when I was with my loser.
I won't call your's a loser, but I really want to!!! I've been in this situation and it hurts soooo bad. I know. I wasn't married but I was in a long-term relationship. I know it must hurt more since you took the vows and YOU would abide by them.
I think in a way I'm lucky to have my disability and pain at a young age. It's helping me weed out the losers that aren't worth my time. I will find a mate that will accept and TRULY LOVE AND CHERISH ME EXACTLY HOW I AM!!! It's true. They're out there. It hit me a while ago how much easier it is to weed through the losers that would treat me exactly as your husband treats you. I DON'T WANT OR NEED THAT AND NEITHER DO YOU!!! You need someone to love and support you. You need hugs. You need someone to say, "I love you!" back when you say it. Don't you feel you deserve this? I'm guessing the answer is yes. So you have to dig deep.
Would you accept this treatment from your husband if you didn't have pain and medical problems? NO. Would you rather spend your energy on things that will benefit you, such as school? YES!
He is using your disability to control you. You don't really want that, do you?
You deserve to live a life as happy as it can be with your situation. You will get the strong, fighter back that you once were. I believe you would have ended up this way with your husband even if you didn't have pain. He seems to love control and power. TAKE YOUR POWER BACK! DON'T LET HIM BE THE ONE TO MAKE THE DECISIONS. TAKE BACK THE CONTROL AND LEAVE HIM WITH NO POWER. You need to spend your energy on positive things and not on worrying if a loser (sorry!) will leave you. You don't want to be treated like this, I know!!! You will find someone that will love you just the way you are! Someone to nurture you, love you, and appreciate you!!!!
You will be ok without him. You will be MUCH better off without him. You will be able to focus on what's important to you and put ALL your energy towards it. You will be free of the emotional pain he causes you constantly. No more crying in Walmart!!!
My favorite original quote I came up with when going through all of this is:
"I'd rather be alone than with someone who makes me feel alone."
Wouldn't you?
I'm here for you my dear friend. I appreciate you and will support you through the rough times. I will not judge. I will not suck your energy. You need your energy. Think of all the wonderful, POSITIVE things you could do if all your energy wasn't being sucked!!!
Please do what is right for you!!!
Much love and understanding,
Lisa

I have never been better since I threw him out, of course how he wants to come back and I am like why do I need a big baby to clean up after, shop for, cook for when he doesnt even have the heart to be nice to me, the one he is supposed to love. I am here for you, if you need help.'\

I'm so sorry your husband is giving you a difficult time. I believe my husband went into denial when my back situation went from bad to worse to unbearable. It did change our relationship and I was so frustrated with him-he never really understood and my mom took me to dr appts, he was only there for my surgeries. He stuck in there and by the 2nd year he was coming around. Unfortunately he was killed in a motorcycle accident 2 years & 2 days from the date of my injury. I didn't have a choice and had to go it alone but with alot of support from family, friends, and the church.
I am glad you were able to "let it out" because we ARE here for you and understand not only the stress and frustration of pain that has taken away our "old" life but also the impact it has on our relationships with family and friends. From my experience, I would recommend you keep expressing your feelings to us and perhaps a therapist. I have found that some therapists will work with you and talk with you over the phone because going to their office every week can be a hurdle in itself.
I still cry often and feel isolated, longing for human contact and the way I was physically before this happened but I try to limit that "grieving" to a short period of time. It's not easy but knowing I'm not alone and this support group is here has helped me. Hang in there...we're here for you.
