Thought we could use some new topics...since we're replying to ones where the situation has passed..:-) :-) :-)

And...this is something I think about a bit.

I am VERY fortunate to be in the position of having some insurance...
And a workaholic husband..
Both of which make it possible for me to get care and meds.

Yet..even I...one of the lucky ones....am paying too high an actual monetary price...for CP.

Our ( me and husband) out-of-pocket expenses for share of cost and meds....is staggering.
It's been the case for a long time now that..
My husbands ability to retire is moved further and further back.
It's being spent on my care.
When he CAN't work any more..
We'll begin to loose what he's built to leave for our children.

And..I know..I'm one of the lucky ones that I can even get that care.

What's the co$t to you?

Charlotte,

Do you have a disability lawyer? If not, get one (and not off the list that SSA provides)

It took me 3 years and a hearing to get my SSD. It was well worth it, but it was tough for those 3 years when I could no longer work and depended on my husband's crap pay. With a new baby to make it worse.

I was paying $40,000 a year for medical. Now that the real estate market crashed, my income left. I was able to get one daughter on disability, my husband on medicare, my sons on college insurance, and I am screwed. We went through all of our savings and retirement. I can not even afford 1/2 of my medications and I do not qualify for any assistance. The Obama pre-existing plan in my area will be approx $10,000 a year. I am only making approx $15,000 so it will be cheaper to pay the $2,000 penalty taxes since I can not afford the insurance. Still out of luck. I need to get well enough so I can work more. It is kinda a catch 22 situation. Medical is expensive. Be glad if you have any insurance.

Here is a good site to access prescription assistance programs: www.needy.meds.org. You just look up the drug name (generic or brand name), and it takes you to the current websites for these programs.

I have used this site a few times, and actually received free medication!

JC-- I too am lucky enough to have insurance, a workaholic husband and Medicare. I have been on disabilty since 2003 and it helps offset my care costs.

I spend very little for my mothly care but I have other problems as does my husband so our costs are quite staggering as well.

It's a crime what they charge for medicine. They know we need it so they can charge whatever they want. I know many people are against Obamacare but if it helps lower our prescription costs I'm all for it.

I hope everyone here can get some relief botth physically and medically. I care about all of you and I hate to hear you're in pain or struggling to make your prescription payments.

It is criminal what they charge for these meds. I have one that is very old feneric and really how could it costs $1.55 per pill?

Something is wrong with our system. Meds are too high. Doctors and hospitals are too high it is a big business and people are suffering and dying. I have medicare my husbands insurance we cannot afford, and i have bills piling up. Well I guess if we have a power outage I can use them to build a fire and keep warm with lol. Tried to add some humor to the bleakness of medical expenses.

If you do not qualify for the free clinics or prescriptions programs. Costco has a program for people who do not have insurance. We saved over a $1000 per month by using the plan at Costco. There was an article that showed there standard costs are the cheapest in the area. But in addition to that they do offer additional discounts to the uninsured.

Just an FYI for anyone else who is uninsured.
