I do not have any experience, but wanted to wish you the best. Remember tapering down on any med can be stressful. Practice some breathing exercises for those moments of stress.

One big thing is don't dwell on the "what if there's more pain than I can handle" type questions. The psychological part of detoxing can be stronger than the physical, because we "scare" ourselves in to thinking it will be worse than it is. I assume your doing this with a Dr.'s advice and care as Fentanyl is not a drug to be managed improperly....it can be very dangerous. Your Dr. should be able to give you a list of things to keep on hand to help with any withdrawal symptoms....depends on the person as to whether they feel them when still on a high dose like 75 mcg.

If your just going from 100 to 75 and then stopping, you probably won't notice much of a difference as far as withdrawal issues.

Hi Ayla, I hope that my foolishness and the way I got out of it might just be some knowledge that you can use... I had gotten myself into a situation where I was up to 200mG/hr of Fentanyl patches and REALLY needed to get back down to 100uG/h, it wasn't fun but here is how I did it and lived. (LOL):
First I had to find a pharmacy that Mylan, or one of the solid type patches.
Then I measured 1/10 of the patch and cut that strip off and did that for the first week and gradually reduced it down to 100.
Since you are going down 1/4 of the patch you are using you might just cut a sliver off and go for a couple of patch changes, then increase the size of the piece you cut off.
I think that the combination of pain plus being habituated to the Fentanyl you probably will have a bit of "discomfort" to deal with and this technique might help you out.

I did do that last year and and felt a little edgy. The pain dr. had to give me a light tranquillizer to get me through. You might not need one.

Well, this morning I put on the 75 patch. so far, so good. Some sneezing and a runny nose, but other than that, not much else is going on. I have Pain cream with Ketamine and muscle relaxants in it or norco 5's as well as a TENS unit and a heating pad.

SO Far So Good.

I made the transition now to the 75 patch. The worst part was on the third day of the patch, when the level was the lowest, for a couple of cycle sin a row, but now after three cycles Ii am okay. I used my ativan and a little benadryl to take the edge off my 3rd day symptoms, and it helped a lot.

So glad that this is going relatively well for you. Makes it easier to stick to your guns and want to get it done when the DT/WD symptoms aren't too bad.

I didn't realize there would be a withdrawel form the pain patch, but I guess it is absorbed and just has a different vehicle then ingested meds... I have a Rx for therm, but they were about $500 a box, and since I have all over pain, it would be hard to find the worse spot!

Your getting 2 different medication patches confused. Your thinking about Lidoderm (lidocaine) patches. They, when placed on a certain painful area, numb it.

The patches that Ayla is detoxing from are Fentanyl patches, you know, the med that's like a 100 times stronger than morphine. And of course those will cause a dependance if taken for a long time and will have to be detoxed off of. And Fent. patches are placed in one spot on your body and not moved for 72 hours.

Be careful, there are some things you really don't want to get confused....this particular one could be deadly.
