Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

As a needle phobe it's hard enough, but I'm phobic about hospitals, doctors, ANY medical tool & especially, surgery, so tomorrow's kidney lithotripsy is scaring the crap out of me. I've postponed it since December, and the huge stone they're going after in my right kidney IS a bit of a rock to bear, but damn, I am SCARED!
I know it's routine to have to read & sign the "what could happen" list, but now I'm even more frightened. I have a 4 yr old son and I want to see him grow up. If I do NOT have the surgery I risk this humongous stone dropping & being way to big to pass. It would cause BIG problems and I'd be hospitalized anyway. If I DO have it, they could miss the stone, cause kidney bleeding, kidney damage, etc. The list is too long to write up.
My big fear came from the observation of the CT Scan of my kidneys. When a doctor isn't sure where to "Start" b/c you have so many stones in both kidneys, you know you're going to go through this several times.
I'm also scared of the aftermath, which I heard is the hard part. There will be no stent like other people get, but I'm told that the days after the procedure will be "difficult".
Everyone I know who has had this procedure has either been hospitalized after, or had a stent. I don't know what to think. Then there's the pain aspect. I already take oral morphine for RSD. I've had it for 17 years. What if they can't handle my pain?
Okay, I AM freaking out. But I don't DO hospitals. I haven't had anything done since 2004. I'm shaking like a leaf.
Needless to say, prayers are appreciated. I go in at 820am eastern, then have the procedure some time after that. My DH & I have TRIED to explain this to our son, but at 4 he thinks I'm getting "cut" to get those pesky stones out. He keeps saying, "Don't let doctor do that! Please!"
How do I get through tonight? And what about my meds? I can drink a little water with them up to 4 hours before, so I'll be due for one just as I arrive. So much to worry about. And this time tomorrow it'll be over. I just home I am not over! How embarrassing to die in kidney stone surgery. Yes, unlikely.
What a long night is will be.

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

I will be sending prayers and positive thoughts that it goes well tomorrow and the after isn't as bad as expected. Hopefully you are able to get your mind off the surgery this evening and it goes by quickly.

Breathe in my nose and exhale out the mouth. It's a breathing technique I've picked up along the way.

In other news, I'm allowed to take my meds up to 4 hours before, and sip water (no more than 16 ounces) with those. After 4am, nothing by mouth. As it is 11pm, I'm thinking of stuffing myself with soda crackers just to get something in my stomach, I'm drinking tons of water until midnight- the cut off.
I haven't had a procedure in a decade so I'm curious about the new rules (allowing small amounts of water) and being told I need to shower with antibacterial body wash before the surgery. My DH had to go out & buy some b/c while I have anti bac hand soap, I don't think that would smell very well.
I cannot sleep. I tried benadryl, valium, and now, 6 hours later, ambien. I'm just too scared. And if those won't help me sleep, nothing will. I need to get up at 6am so it's gonna be a long night in one sense, but a short one too.
Earlier today I was in the basement bathroom having a warm bath, and my 4 yr old came pounding on the door. "I lost you!" he said, frantically. It made me tear up.
I'm trying hard to just get through this night. Then, I'll take it minute by minute, day by day. I appreciate the prayers and well wishes so much! I'll keep you posted!
Wishing you ALL well!

Before my IVF treatments (to this day I don't know WHAT got me through those!) I could take my meds when needed before surgery. I'd love to slip the MSIR in but am worried the anesthesiologist will think I'm overloaded. I am not taking valium for that reason, although I've always taken valium before procedures b/c the IV freaks me out so much. Heck, ALL of it freaks me out.
So I'm tired but jumpy, nauseous, terrified and thinking of everything that can go wrong. I just want to go back to bed but have to remember that I am an adult. Heartburn has got me too so I want to take my pepcid/zantac medication but am scared. I'll take it to doctor with me.
After 17 years of opiods, I'm damned scared that I'll be under dosed. I'm scared of being judged, too. THIS is why I avoid doctors like the plague.
Again, thanks for the well-wishes and prayers. I will need them, and greatly appreciate them!
God Bless,
Jen
Healing hugs and prayers,
