So what is the plan now? Neuropathy and lower back pain generally present in different ways and I sure hope they can get to the bottom of your pain. It can be frustrating but more testing can become the answer you are seeking. I

t took me awhile before my diagnosis with both the brain tumor and a completely separate reason for my impending paralysis. Not an easy diagnosis and quite a few tests but in the end results.

my back doesn't hurt just my legs and because i am diabetic all the neurologists i saw took the easy way out on the diagnosis, but it never made sense, now take that report to the next neurologist, back doc who ever i have to the pain in my legs is unending and has put me on disability

glad you got a clue to your puzzle..... have looked at every hospital network in your area under neurology?

my new doctor works in a center for neurology disorder, she seems to know her stuff and also that it takes people years to find their way there she's almost the last resort by the time you find her.

maybe they have a place like that in your town I don't know but I hope so, just throwing the idea out there as it so hard to work with neurology pain.

I hope you get a better treatment plan in place with another part of the puzzle coming into place

perhaps you have 2 problems here? peripheral neuropathy presents differently than spine-related leg pain.Unfortunately p.n. is common in diabetics. I have it but from lupus. I'm sorry you haven't gotten any relief from meds you've tried. I've found lyrica helps me the best. My feet/lower legs are still numb but not as painful as before.I just wish I could feel my feet again. But I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

Good luck with your next neurologist- I hope he/she can figure this out for you.

I have had lumbar problems for over 20 years... I was told I have neuropathy from back problems... then a few years later I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and I now have nerve pain in bottom of both feet, toes and up shins... I have both and it's not uncommon... It feels like I have a Strap around both feet.

Wondering how you are doing. Seeing if your settled in with 1 good Dr. now instead of bopping around.....get your 2 conditions taken care of.

Wow I am so sorry for your pain!!!
There are symptoms of neuropathy caused by bones of the spine compressing the nerve roots. Sometimes it is because of bone overgrowth and sometimes it is because the spine was moved out of place over time or by trauma or both.
Usually the nerve compression is progressive, legs or arms become weaker and weaker. Most people with severe nerve root compression or spinal cord compression in the legs start having bowel, bladder and sexual problems and end up walking with assistive devices.
To diagnose this neurosurgeons usually order EMG testing, CT, MRI and an X-ray of the spine. The specialists in that area are pretty much the only people who know what they are looking at becAuse besides a report they review the actual films.
If they actually diagnose the problem correctly and it is related to your back it can be fixed, sometimes with excellent results.
