I went to my CP doc on Tuesday and as there are people way worse off than I am, I never park in handicapped. But I DO at the pharmacy b/c otherwise it is a LONG walk and it was 102 degrees on Tuesday. So I park and NO placard!
I went back to my dr's office and asked if anyone had turned one in. All I can think is that it slipped out when I opened the door. It's not like I take it anywhere with me. It stays in the car. Turns out no one turned one in and that was the last time I saw it.
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do about it- call the state? I feel so irresponsible. I don't even KNOW that anyone took it, just that it is gone. I don't use it but once a month usually, but I also travel once a month and we just found out that my hubby- when picking me up at airport- can display the placard and be allowed to wait for me for a few minutes w/o being chased off. That means I have less space to cover with my luggage and that helps my foot.
Who would take a placard? I was stupid to leave it where it could fall out, but why take it?
The good news is that I found 3 $5 bills and 4 singles while tearing my minivan apart looking for it. I hate to go through getting a new one and hope I don't need to go back to my doctor to get a new form. How embarrassing!

I don't know about your state but, I recently had to replace my placard because the other one was left in another car by mistake.
Anyway, I just simply went down to the DMV express office (no drivers licenses, just tag renewals and such) I told them I lost mine. They had me fill out the quick form for my name, info, drivers license number etc. Then, they gave me a new placard. My doctors form is on file and valid until 2017 so I did not have to have that completed again.

Sorry this happened. Such a pain to have to get it replaced. Might check online and see if you can get it replaced online and save a trip to the DMV.

But...I am afraid its more likely that it fell out somehow and someone snagged it ... they chose to be selfish, rather than turn it in or find out who it belonged to.
Even worse would be opening the door and stealing it! I can't even imagine someone stealing a disabled sign... that's pretty darn low.
There is one thing I am sure of ... its NOT YOUR FAULT! Its all on them - NOT YOU> You know that don't you? I really hope so.
She told me to report a lost/stolen placard so the old placard can be made inactive for use or renewal.
But hey!, kudos on finding the $$$$$$!

I would call your DMV and ask them what to do to replace the placard. I don't imagine you'll have to reapply for one. They usually keep this stuff on file.
My placard stays on my rear view mirror. I would occasionally misplace it when we lived in Fla., and it was against the law to keep it hanging, unless you were parked in a disabled spot. With my mind so nuts now, I'd lose it for sure!
Sorry you have to go through this- we have enough to deal with without having to deal with a lowlife stealing a disabled placard. That's the lowest of low...

It is disturbing to think people will do that but it causes me to think of the reasons why someone would.
Perhaps it is a person without medical insurance and doesn't have a doctor but they need the help. Let us hope it someone in need who steals these things.
I do not always use mine. It depends on the day. Sometimes I feel I need the exercise and make myself walk. But that placard is a life saver a lot of the time.
I hope you get sorted out and get a new placard or find yours.
At least it's not a big deal to replace. According to our state's online website I just need to show my license and pay $10 or $15. I'll get to it sometime next week. It sure would be easier to have sticker for our license plates AND a placard, so the placard was just for riding in other cars. But whatever, I'll deal. It could be SO much worse.
Thanks for all the replies. I haven't even had it more than a few months so it won't be difficult to replace. I hope whoever took it, needs it. And I will ask again next month at the clinic and pharmacy to be sure no one turned it in since then. I just wish I didn't feel so stupid about this. I mean, I KNOW better. It's usually kept on the visor but that was down the day I drove. I need to find a place for it and keep it there.
