I had my insurance exam today, and got the results of my blood tests. I was SO sure after all the years I took Darvocet (it had 650 milligrams of tylenol in it- VERY bad for the liver) that my liver was going to be damaged. Years ago in 2000, after a few years of Darvocet use, my liver did show some signs of wear. Last year it was taken off the market and I've tried not to take tylenol unless I REALLY needed it.
Today as my doctor rattled off all my results, I was just waiting for the liver problem to pop up. Nope. He said it was fine! I asked again- are you SURE? It's completely normal, he said.
How is that even possible? Not that I'm unhappy about it- I'm thrilled! But I took 2 Darvocet every 4 hours for 14 years! Then 1 year off and the liver is normal?
I'm pretty happy with the results. We only had 1 mishap, when the doctor examined my feet and almost grabbed my foot! We were talking and he wasn't paying attention and I felt his hand on my ankle and I almost kicked him in the err...lower stomach. It was instinct and he knew that, and he apologized profusely, as did I.
We talked about PCOD and how it causes women to gain weight, and he also mentioned that my back and shoulder problems could be relieved by a breast reduction (exactly what I wanted to hear) and I reminded him that I'd already had one. He said he could order PT and we could try that, but as things get worse, a reduction would be the better option. Now, to find a plastic surgeon who will do a 2nd breast reduction. If only my doctor had listened to me when I 1st had it done and not left it a high C/low D, we wouldn't have this problem!
He asked about my pain and I told him the new doc was working out very well and he was glad. Other than needing to drop a few pounds b/c I don't get enough exercise, I'm in good shape. But that isn't counting my upcoming mammogram and results of the pelvic exam today. Hopefully those go okay. I feel better having done it all, though the REASON I did it still ticks me off.
Our insurance is requiring this "Wellness exam" and if you don't- wave bye by to your insurance! We also have to prepare a mission statement about our health and both hubby and I finally agree on what we WANT to write. Not words I'd utter in front of others, especially my 2 year old.
Anyway, I just wanted to share the good news- it seems to be so rare that we see any lately. Tomorrow is my pain doc, then I hope I'm off for awhile- the blood draw on Friday almost did me in. Needle phobia's not a joke!

When I had a tubal pregnancy in 2004, they gave me a pill that couldn't be given if you had liver troubles so they did tests, and my OB said it was okay.
Now, a year after I stop taking tylenol every 4 hours, it's in the normal range. I just can't get over it. Yay for the liver- sturdy little organ that it is! ;)

i know the reduction has been something you want for relief. i hope all works out with the insurance!
I see my pain doc today and hope that goes smoothly. I REALLY want to ask about getting a few ambien, but I always feel as if I should be lucky I get what I get. Plus I may not see HIM today as I saw him last month. WHY didn't I ask then? Ugh!
