I have no idea of that type of animal service and I don't know offhand of anyone personally who has or has had one. I only know they exist for people who have such a need.

We enjoy our critters like any other person would. They are nice to have, and respect, and they are funny sometimes, they can give most people plenty of laughs too. Especially if they know people food is nearby...They will always beg for food, as that is their nature once domesticated.

Animals are fun and funny too. Love them and care for them if you have one. They are innocent loving sentient creatures which deserve both our love and our respect.

there is a lady here named Yadlim who has Misha a great pironese that is a service dog for her....she has him in training still but he is hers...she had one that she still has that has been retired....

My sister had dauxies that she had training to be therapy dogs for elderly people in hospitals....they were used for some but not for long...she decided they were not quite the right dog for that....but the training is important...

It is also known that you can get the vests for service dogs that really are not service dogs so that your babies can go into restaurants with you or anyplace basically...but that is illegally using the vests....they did story on our news few months back about fake service animals....

my guys are my therapy...I love them so much...but they are untrained in any way...even simple sit stay is not in their skill set....but outside is...they head for the kitchen where I lock them into only that area of house and they have doggie door in there...

The Federal Laws that govern Service Animals are different that those regarding Therapy Animals. Under Federal Law Therapy Animals are only covered regarding housing. You need to check your state and local laws govering Therapy Animals.

Service are specially and individuallly trained animals that help you directly with things caused by your disabilities. A person training am animal.they have or got to help them with things connected to their disability is not considered a Service Animal. Just be sure and read the laws in your area that specifically define what a Service Animal and a Therapy Animal are. Do Not depend on someone that will directly benefit on telling you what the laws say and don't say. Unfortunately, there has been so much abuse in this area by people wanting your money, that laws have gotten tighter in many places.

My sister-in-law trains her dogs as "Therapy" dogs. Once they are certified she takes them to the hospital. Her dogs are related to the Great Pyrenese, they are Bermise Mountain dogs. My other SIL has a Service dog that is almost as large as she is, and she is small. She has ceramic hips and can not afford the surgery to replace them again. The dog helps her stand, She holds on to the dog to help her walk. When she falls he starts using his muzzle to try and get her to sit up.

My neighbor's child slowly went blind. Finally they found a great service that trained him with his service dog. The dog went everywhere with him even to high school classes. I am sure he would have liked the dog to do his homework also. LOL

My son's first girlfriend trained Service Dogs. It is amazing all the different certifications that a dog can be trained to do.

My rescue dog has learned that when my phone alarm goes off I have to take medications. If I don't get up and take the meds she will start with a low growl, if I still don't get my pills she will start barking, Trying to crawl on top of me to get closer to my face and bark almost in my ear. When I get up and take my pills she will jump up and down with excitement. It is funny that she picked up on that. She is all of 9 lbs.

There are service dogs specifically train to help a diabetic. The dog can smell the person as they are going into high sugar. There was a lady I knew who was pregnant and had very bad diabetes. She started going into insulin shock but was able to dial 911 and she passed out. The dog 's job was to open the refrigerator and get a soda to give to her owner and her emergency insulin kit. When the ambulance got there the dogs had dropped 10 cans of soda on the couch where she had gone into a coma.

It is a lot of training, but so cool when they can help someone.

I know that trained correctly therapy and service dogs offer a huge help to their owner.

A lot of the restrictions and requiring certain documentatuon is due to people abusing the rights and saying their animal is a Service Dog when it isn't. There is a website where you can buy a letter to take your dog on an airplane.

there are many types of service dogs-unbelievable what they can sense-problem is the cost and wait on getting one I guess

It also depends on if you want to take the animal into a business. For example, ADA only a dog can be a service animal and a miniature horse. But, if you need the animal only at home, the federal laws for housing are different and don't only cover dogs.

Our library has a children's Literacy program where the tutors bring along a dog to help encourage the children.
It's always booked up months in advance.
