Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
The doctor did explain the prolotherapy to me, but really I was so nervous at the time that I wasn't taking the information in, so in the end I just said she should use her best judgement.
I have read that some don't believe in the prolotherapy, others think that it is very effective. In my case, I am happy to say that whatever she did, my leg and shoulder pain are much less than normal!
My shoulder (just TPI's) has the best range of motion that I've had in a long time. My leg, during the daytime hours, is doing really well too. Every morning since the injections I have woken up in excruciating pain, just as bad as when she did the prolotheraphy injections, but it's in the leg and shoulder. After a couple hours it subsides - hopefully that will go away, it's only been 72 hours since I got the treatment.
Overall I'm pleased, I just hope that the morning/evening pains will go away and that the benefits last for many months. PMD said that she likes to only do three treatments a year, which seems like it's not very much!
But I didn't bc I thought this post was closed ...
Kinda sad we all couldn't just explore this more - maybe there were some not-nice posts I didn't see? (The Ignore feature has that impact)
I'm glad it's been reopened and you took the time to give an update. I've really wanted to know if you're okay and getting relief. I swear I'd have no range-of-motion in my neck without these interventions.
That excruciating pain sounds awful though. Is it possible a nerve was nicked? I had that happen (bc some of my nerve endings, like some of my bones, don't come out at the expected angle) during accupuncture, during a botched facet procedure (difft PM) and once during a TrP. Things settled down eventually. I hope the same is true for you.
Thanks for the update. I hope relief and improvement continues for a good long time! Best, raggedy
I'm not really thinking that something went wrong - I'm used to waking up in extreme pain four or five days a week. It seems like it's maybe a combination of meds having worn off (last pain meds usually by 8:00 pm, morning meds at 6:00 am) and also that my guard is down (because of being asleep) and it's that shock of awareness of pain but not being awake enough to control my responses. I'm sure that many on this board can fully relate to this experience.
These past few days have been on the bad end for me, though, and I am assuming it's from the beat up effect from having the injections and will wear off. ;) It's early days yet, so we'll see what happens.
I had been taking it relatively easy, only on my feet for short bursts this weekend. Today I stood for about an hour doing work in my salon, and I was pretty bummed out to find that I had the same level of pain in my leg that make it so hard to walk/stand for long periods. It seemed like the exact same pain.
On the really PLUS side, though - when I was doing my evening self-massage I found that all but one of the many MPS knots on the inside and back of my leg were smoothed out! Usually it hurts quite a bit just to touch about 30% of my leg where the knots have been, but now I only have a few semi-tender spots!!
These two things seem really contradictory, I'm not quite sure what to make of it. Pain with just standing for an hour, but the leg not being painful to the touch. Strange.
