My urine test are done in private and there is no chance of getting yours mised up with another patiens because they do the weight, b/p check and urine test one patient at a time.They call only one patent at a time. My PM dr and his staff are professional and strict. I don;t have a problem with the tox screen or the pain contract.

Life isnt fair. If I have to take routine tox screens and sign a pain contract in order to have my pain managed, I don't have a problem with that. It is to protect the dr and their patients. After the work I did, I know how people lie. Personally I want my dr to protect himself because that means he won't have any problems that could affect his ability to write pain meds rxs. I know that as a patient that suffers from severe chronic pain, I am Not owed pain meds that manage my pain. I am grateful to have a dr who cares and doesn't have a problem with rxing pain meds for his patients.

Several of my daughters still take ADD meds as adults and they also have to have routine tox screens done. They are done privately

Just me, I completely forgot my sons, who both take AdHD meds and are tested as well. Thanks for the reminder.

This ne PM doc is the first one to make me take a urine test. At mine; you have total privacy, and there are no restrictions of running water. Not sure why some have that rule. I asked why I had to take one now, when I never did before. It is part of the new regulations for prescribing opiates. They said it not only tells them if you are abusing them, but also if you are selling them. The results are immediate, as there is a test strip inside the container. So it is understandable. I did have a false positive one time for cocaine. But they sent it to a lab and it was clear. I have no idea why that happened as I never used cocaine, even when I was way younger. No test is 100%, but once it goes to a lab, with far more sophisticated equipment; it will show for sure. My only problem with the whole thing is that you never know when they are going to ask for one. I am not someone that can pee on demand. So I usually have to drink a ton of water from their water cooler before I can give them a sample. Other than that, it is like any other lab work.

hello, at my pain dr you just take the cup in the bathroom, put it in the little window, thats it! It doesnt bother me, except one time the insurance didnt want to pay for it, it was 400!! The insurance was the one that said the dr wasnt "following the rules and wanted the urine, so they did reimburse me.

I think through issue with running water is to prevent diluting the urine sample. I know in some clinics that there is no water allowed to be turned on, until after the urine test is handed in to the nurse.
Methadone clinics in our area do their compliance testing and so do the low cost clinics/free clinics that way.
It seems that private doctors offices do things a bit differently than clinics do.

Urine tests are not written into the laws. Urine tests are in some recommended guidelines, but the are not incorporated into any federal or state law/regulation. If anyone tells you it is, ask them for the state or federal statue reference.

Hi hon, I just read your post and found it interesting because I had gone to see my Psychiatrist who I see every 3 months, and they asked for a urine test. I went on line to see what it showed, and it listed every medication I'm taking.. I'm not sure why they requested it, other than to see if I'm seeking out medication from other doctor's. That is the first time in all these years that I've ever been asked to have one. In fact, now that you have brought it up, I think I will ask Dr. P when I see her in June.
