Percocet is now Actavis, WTH???

Hello all,

Well I had a surprise yesterday. Not a good one. Percocet has now changed and is made by Actavis. And it doesnt work. I take Oxvyc twice a day and Percocet twice a day for breakthrough pain. I filled my script yesterday for Perc and they gave me these white oval pills. Different than normal.
So find out online that the manufacturers has changed from Watson to Actavis. Watson bought them whatever..... Apparently Watson won't be making Percocet anymore. The Actavis version is generic and MUCH WEAKER. It really didn't really work for me. It is like Tylenol OTC to me. I have very severe head and leg pain and this crap is not working. I'm sure most of us have severe pain and these "candy pills" aint gonna work.
They had told me the last four months that Percocet was on "back order". What a lie. I was able to get the Watson tablets at a different store until now.

Maybe this is a local issue but I doubt it. Has anyone elese heard of this? Does anyone know of a different short term med for breakthrough pain? Sorry for the rant but they had just got my meds right and working and now this crap. Anyone else run in to this?

Wanted to update this thread. After three weeks of hell and pain I got off the Actavis Percocet. I found a site where there are many others suffering the same problem. I went to the Pain Clinic yesterday and the doc was real cool and gave me Oxycodone IR. Don't know if it works or not as only on it one day. I was a little surprised it didnt work right away. The doc said he has had other complaints about Actavis and he thinks it is likely junk. The Actavis didnt work for pain at all in addition to side effects (felt by many) of heart racing, anxiety, stomach problems and no pain relief. I hope this Oxycodone IR kicks in soon. It has been a rough three weeks. yesterday when I got to doc pain was an 8 or 9 and I really wanted to scream. As an added bonus with the pain, I also get tingling in my brain. Imagine tingling or Pop Rocks like sensation on the top of your head. Drives me crazy. Has anyone else gone off the Actavis// Did you get used to it? Does it work/not work? I filed a report with the FDA and called Actavis. They gave me the our product is great and the same spiel. IT IS NOT THE SAME. Don't tell me how MY own body feels. Hope to feel better soon.

This article sounds like Actavis took out the pain killing ingredient and is testing it out on the public. Am I resing this wrong? Anyone care to comment or intrpret? I have a brain injury and have a hrad time with comprehension. Help please.

All the article is saying is that they'll be able to produce a generic Oxycontin with the abuse deterrent polymers that they added a couple years ago (that plastic-like coating) if they can get FDA approval by September 1, 2014.

This is nothing new. This type of Oxycontin is the only kind in production since the abuse deterrent polymers were added in 2006 (I think, might be 2008). The old version of Oxycontin from the Original Purdue Patent is not allowed to be made anymore in the U.S.

I noted earlier in this forum that I did notice a difference since Actavis began making percocet, and in a bad way. It didn't work nearly as well. Then, I called my pharmacy and was told that their wholesaler only carried that brand. Rather than switch pharmacies, I then requested the name brand instead of the generic. The co-pay was $40 instead of $20, but it is definitely worth an additional $20 for something that actually works. The pharmacy gave me the party line, though about generics being he same as the name brand, but I think we all know that isn't always true. I also emailed Actavis and gave them my opinion of their generic percocet.

I too got my Percocet a few months ago to find out that they were not made by Watson. Called my pharmacist to find out that Actavist was the new company making them. They are HORRIBLE! They do not help! Looking at some other comments here I see others are running into this as well. They are no where as strong as the Watson. It is like taking a sugar pill!
It almost seems like NOTHING can be done to correct the problem!
