Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

Kiddo- you are 22. If you're American, you're old enough in this country to find a doctor. If you don't have money, try Planned Parenthood. I had to start BC pills at 15 b/c of my endometriosis. I had heavy periods- so bad that I'd vomit and get diarrhea. Then pill helped a LOT. It didn't mean getting sexually active- that is a myth. It just stopped the ridiculously painful, heavy periods, headaches and nausea.
Talk to your doc and if you feel better having him or her talk to your mom, do that. But you can most likely stop this with birth control. And EVERY pill we take has some side effect. If BC pills caused as many strokes as certain people want us to believe, no one would use it. I don't know one person who ever had one and know tons of women on BC pills.
Till you can get into the doc, try as mentioned above. I ALWAYS found that motrin worked better for my periods than morphine! I'm not kidding. Before early menopause due to in-vitro treatments, I would be taking morphine and valium for the pain of RSD and it wouldn't even TOUCH the menstrual pain. Only motrin did. Anti-inflammatory drugs are great for cramps!
Also, with the amount you are bleeding, you need to see a doc whether you want BC pills or not.
Don't be afraid to ask questions- pain is pain. Good Luck and PM me if you want to talk!
Tabitha, as the mother of an adopted child, I can tell you I feel no different about him than I do the son who was born and died the same day. In fact, if anything, I love him MORE b/c of all it took to get him. But IF your mom is not treating you as a mother should, your friend is right and you need to seek outside help. A mother telling a 22 year old not to wear tampons? Why does this sound familiar? Ever see the movie "Carrie" with Sissy Spacek?
You are an adult. I don't know your situation, but you ARE an adult. I pray you have the access to outside help that others do. There's no shame in asking for help. I was married at 19 to a man who abused me. He only had to do it one time for me to seek help. I was living in a state far away from any family, and I still was able to find help. Then I rented a UHaul and packed what I could after my Kardashian-style marriage, and returned home and was soon back in college.
My prayers are with you- just tell the truth and seek help from the right people. Reaching out here was a good idea, now go a step further and go to the women's crises center your friend recommended or at least Planned Parenthood for a doctor's help.
Good Luck!
On the other hand, she has posted this same problem for more than a month on multiple boards. (Five at last count.) The advice has all been great, but advice can only go so far. At this point, going to the gynecologist (as most members have suggested) is the best idea.
