Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

I had a bad day yesterday where I spent the most part of my day feeling angry at everyone and everything. I did get some responses yesterday from the Support Group for Parkinson's Disease and Depression. I was informed that depression can cause feelings of anger however I just don't understand how it would all of the sudden just come sneaking up on me like it did yesterday. I've had depression for years and have never felt the way I felt yesterday. I did recently start taking Tramadol for pain and looked up side affects and didn't see where it specifically said that feelings of anger was a symptom however it did say that it could cause mood swings and increased anxiety. So I am thinking that my feelings of anger are more related to the new medication.
I still feel somewhat angry at the World this morning - not just at one person or any one thing. It's just a general feeling and it is kind of discouraging in a way. I know I need the meds or I will be in severe pain and that will make me cranky so I guess until the meds side affects diminish or I get something new prescribed, I will try very hard to think twice before I speak or make any postings to my friends and family on Facebook.
Here's hoping better days are ahead.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I checked out your profile..
As I do when responding to someone I'm unfamiliar with.
Between.. pain, meds, and Parkinson's..
It's not at all surprising that you're having some anger.
Any one of those things could cause it..
And.. you have the trifecta.
Sometimes.. some side effects go away after you adjust to a medication. Maybe that will ease some of it for you.
I don't recall meeting you here on the CP board before
So.. welcome.

Far more than I usually do online.
This was one of the subjects that kinda stuck with me.
Because... I sometimes have a difficult time with anger
( and all of the stages of grief...
As they come and go through my life.
I just wish I had some focus for that anger..
So.. it doesn't come out as just bitterness at the world in general.
Like.. if I'd been in an accident that was someone else's fault that caused me injury...
The focus of my anger could be the other driver, say.
I don't guess that .. in reality..
That would make it one bit better.
Ah, well.. I guess the only thing to do is to let go of the anger/bitterness/frustration...............
As quickly as possible.
It helps.. somehow..
To share here and now that I don't have any feelings that apply only to me. That I'm not unique is somehow comforting.
Hugs
re tramadol only one way to find out and that is to go off it .. or speak to doctor. about side affects.
I use tramadol sr also. but I have no side affects.
but as one medication wears off.. I find myself with an hour or more of horrid pain - nobody can speak to me, I am just so GRUMPY - its so not like me. but pain can do that to me. I don't suffer from depression. I have a son who does. so its an awful illness on its own. yours is prob a result of PD and CP. is it ?
so give yourself a break.. do something nice for yourself. what do you like to do ? read ? movie ? sleep ? rest on bed ? music ?
computer ?
the stages of grief are like a circle. and anger is a huge part of it.
you probably feel you have lost a lot of your old life.
so you hopefully will have moved thru the stage of anger, but its ok.
you may come back to anger again. its when we get stuck in one place. we may needs some professional help.
hopefully .. we move on to accept and adapt .. but we will prob go back thru the cycle of grief again..
being ill is not fair.. it comes with a heavy price.
but also celebrate how amazing you are to have to cope with both.
Sunny ..
Hugs & God Bless

Anyhow, sorry to sidetrack. Living life with chronic pain often feels lonely...even if we may be surrounded with many people who understand or who love us enough to try. I will say this board helps considerably but, even still, we WILL have feelings of depression, anger, anxiety, etc. This life isn't easy even under the best of circumstances.
I've been going through a patch as well recently so I absolutely understand. Last night, I was such a crying mess that this morning I had to use a GREAT deal of Clinique eye cream to somewhat bring down the puffiness in my eyes from crying. Right now I feel angry at everything and I'm cranky to people that don't deserve it sometimes. I then feel worse after, when my anger dissipates and I realize whoever it was didn't deserve me taking my unrelated frustrations out on them. I am fortunate that those people usually understand, even coworkers. With my contracting officer (who I work with nearly every second of every work day), we have a "safe word," and I simply say the word if I'm having a bad day and he knows it's one of those days where he comes to me in a different way or leaves me alone altogether.
Chronic pain and depression go hand in hand and depression causes anger. It's one big vicious cycle. I've finally, after my fiance has insisted so so so many times, to go see someone for my depression/anger/anxiety. I hope it will help.
Anyway, I know I rambled a lot there but I hope you were able to get something out of it. I'm so sorry you are having a tough time and I hope you stick around to get the support you need here.

I just wanted to add that you definitely should mention these new feelings of anger to your doctor, because mood changes can sometimes be a symptom of Parkinson's.
What dose level are you taking for Tramadol? Also is it regular or slow release?
I have found that slow release works much much better. But you also need to find the right dose. I started with 150mg twice a day. I am happy to say that over about 2 or 3 months I was able to get it down to 100mg twice a day. It's still a work in progress.
I certainly couldn't use regular Tramadol. It would be like taking tic tacs.
I hope that you are having some good days in amongst the pain.
Having no break from the pain is terrible and exhausting.
Maybe you are upset because Tramadol doesn't work.
I know this may not be helpful, but this morning I ve been watching funny animal videos to help me through the funk and to stay away from the pills.
The pain is winning unfortunately, but positive imagery it got me through an hour.
(((( hugs)))
So today is going great for me right now. I do have some restlessness going on in my leg and a numb/tingling feeling in my left foot but I can tolerate all of that. I'm just so ecstatic about not being in pain. it's been a long, hard road dealing with the pain and bless my husbands heart as he has been to tolerant of me being cranky, irritable and angry but I think those days are over as they seem to have made the right call by increasing me to 2 tables instead of just the one table.
Thank you everyone for your supportive responses. It's truly a blessing being a part of a group of people who are all going through the same thing and knowing that you can get into this group and just rant sometimes.
