I just noticed in my calender that September is Pain Awareness Month. There are different occasions going on across the country. I think we should spread the word as much as we can. Even my state governor declared NPM! Funny as we have some of the worst pain clinics in the country, but it's just a political thing. Anyway, there's lots of info online, and there's even a conference in Las Vegas in November. I wonder if it is for doctors only, or if we lowly pain patients are allowed? ;)

out of curiosity I went to a place where they have volunteers go you give them details of where you would like to help and they match you up .I was shocked there was very little in the way of places that help people in pain people who have rarer conditons..I was saddened by this

We have pain awareness every day. The rest of the country needs to catch up with us I guess.

I am with Keeska, we need to be the ones to have community partners, PM Doc's, PM nurses and anyone that deals with pain. I will be writing a letter to the editor of the Miami Herald, what are YOU going to do???????????

I've written to my congresspeople in 3 states (we've moved a lot since we got married) and only got a written reply once, and that was in WI. Here in MI, it's not as easy. I got an email reply from 1 of the senators here but that was 3 years ago. Maybe it's time for more letters, or maybe time to think of something more effective.

LOL! Yes, we need CHRONIC PAIN AWARENESS and we need it all day, 365 days a year! How about a machine that mimics the pain of all of our diseases/syndromes, etc. Every doctor in the country has to line up to be zapped with everything their patients have for a few minutes. The GOOD docs could take care of this, and the docs who "don't treat pain" would be experiencing what they call "discomfort" and waiting for one of US to write a scrip. What a change THAT would be!

Seriously, I don't wish this pain on anyone, but wouldn't it be nice if the docs had an IDEA about what they were talking about? Not gonna happen but one can dream. ;)

Well maybe someone would get it Thaliajen. I have a decent & caring doctor. I pray he stays that way & does not retire. Although I know he does not get some of what I am saying. So I would not want my PM to use that machine but I sure would like some others to.

Lets see if they were hooked up to it all day it they would beg for relief. Hot pokers a long with pin & needles, arms twisted behind ones back, hands forced closed, someone squeezing your neck & putting you head in a vice. I could go on & on....I kind of like it & I'm actually a very nice & kind person believe or not.

Its sad really sad. Maybe our voices are not heard enough. I'm thinking that may very well change in the near future.

I believe you're a kind person. Even kind people can be pushed too hard! And while it was a joke, it has crossed my mind a few times over the years. Docs should KNOW what they're dealing with and sadly, not many do.
