Being Canadian we have a healthcare plan for everyone paid by the government. I was just wondering how everyone was feeling about Obamacare. Is it as good as it sounds? Are the general public excited about it?

It isn't a perfect system. Some things I do not agree with others I do but it is the system I have to work within. Here if you have private insurance you get to see specialists and have operations pretty quickly. If you are relying only on free medicare you go on waiting lists. Some of these lists are very long. I've been waiting for the Pain Management Clinic for over 6 months with no end in sight. My little operation I need was requested by the specialist to be done within 3 months. I'm still waiting. The system isn't perfect but for those who are unemployed, on pensions or just on very low incomes this is better than no health care at all.
When I worked I never complained about paying for others care. Yes it meant I lost a large part of my tax return but I thought and still do think it was a good idea. Everyone should be able to access health care, not just if you can pay for it. The government has set up a system to make those able to get insurance pay or be penalised for not doing so. I see so many complain that they cannot afford to pay insurance yet they still go out every week for a restaurant meal and have to have the latest fashions. I see great amounts of spending that is just wasteful by those that really can afford insurance if they just stopped the 'me' spending.
I pay for a lot of my own medical expenses. Not everything is covered under our medicare. What I spend each month would almost be the same as basic cover so I get a little angry with some of my fellow country men when they complain about costs.
I don't know what obamacare entails for America but it has to be better than what you currently have. I'm glad my country does have medicare for those not able to pay. When I worked at least I knew my taxes were helping out someone who really needed it.
