Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

Unless you are 65 or over it takes 18 months for Medicare to kick in. At least that was our experience.
Merry Christmas!!! Woot woot....happy New Year too! Yeay to Medicare also that is such good great groovey news!!!
As for your brother, sounds kind of like my brother...
I don't have the card or even the letter yet.
I just kept checking the internet. I was sort of confused when I saw it said disability.
"SPtrout that is not the amount of time before medicare kicks in....it is two years...24months...from date of disability"
My wife's delay was 18 months, but I no longer remember the details. However, since she applied months after she left her job, the math may have been exactly as you describe.
Thanks, Steve
"As far as the Medicare goes, I was offered Medicare about 6 months later so about 2 years from my disability date. I didn't take it because my husbands insurance was better and I was told I couldn't have both. So happy for you! And at Christmas none the less!"
You were lucky to be given an option. When my wife received SSD she was on my employer's insurance, but they dropped her the day that her Medicare became effective; no option allowed. Oddly, my former employer (a big company based in the Chicago area) knew about her getting SSD/Medicare before we did here in Texas. We got a "your out" letter almost the same day/week/month (I do not remember for sure) as we got her official letter from SSA.
I just opened my checking account this morning and there it is.
Ironically, I just finished my paperwork for food stamps and my housing. Last night is the are giving me par b before part a. Oh well, I haven't even received the letter, so I'll have to go little by little.
I'm on Medicaid now, but I have a lot of debt. I have an appointment today and Monday.
I was trying to read through Medicare, and I was getting an anxiety attack. Everything is supposed to be roses now that there is some money in my bank account!!
My husband owns his own business. Do you suppose that's why the insurance didn't automatically boot me out? I have received a few letters from Blue Cross about my secondary insurance because they think I have Medicare. Blue Cross told me that I should be using Medicare as a secondary but Medicare says no. It would be awesome to have a secondary insurance again. I always had one for 23 years til I had to take SSDI. Hardly ever had to pay out of pocket. Boy, those days are gone!
