Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

Hey guys, I hope everyone has felt decent through the holidays. For me, it's the hardest time of the year to get through.. I was just curious as to how everyone celebrated and what some of your resolutions are.
Mine is just to generally try to be happier and not let my problems make others feel worse - This time last year, I had all these expectations to be better by now, but I've had at least a dozen more diagnoses within that year. So now, my goal is to get rid of the expectations as they always cause more heartache than what it's worth. I'm returning to my therapist to try and reduce some of my anxiety, and try to have some more positive thoughts.. I now know that I may get better, or I may get worse. I don't consider myself a strong person here recently because the past four months or so I've just given up on everything. So I am going to stop pushing myself so much, but I'm also going to start just sucking up the pain sometimes and drag my ass out of bed in the morning because there are people who need me right now. I know I can't just change overnight but I really need my life back.. As easy as it is to just sleep all day when my bones feel like breaking, I'm going to have to just be stronger and get up and go on with my life.
Last night was spent in the ER with a massive urinary tract infection and intestinal blockage. (Way to spend the new year, huh? ....I won't go into details, it was the most painful and disgusting thing that I have ever experienced.) I'm doing alright today, but having so many bowel problems has really irritated my syrinx and caused pain today... But, this is the first time I have been caught up in school all year long. I missed the first day back today of the new semester but I'm going to have to get back tomorrow.. My homebound time is up so I'll have to go back, but I've dropped out of honors and am taking regular classes now, so at least it won't be as stressful when I do miss.
Time to suck it up and hit the ground running.. I've got honor band rehearsals and a huge academic team tourney to be in.
So, anyway - what is everyone's goals for this year? I know I'll be exercising more and doing whatever I can to make myself feel better, no matter what it takes. I hope you all are planning to do the same. :-)
Happy 2013!

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

Sorry you were in ER last night and I can relate. Having had opioids going through my body for tbe past 30 odd years, has caused numerous visits to the hospital with bowel problems and you're right, it's very painful to have taken care of. I hope you're feeling better tonight.
I give you a lot of credit going through all this while still in school. You're obviously a very strong young woman. Band rehersals, what instrument do you play? Hopefully that helps keeps your mind off the pain.
I really.haven't set any New Year resolutions. I.do work out every day and would like to try and get in the best possible shape I can be in. I am trying to strengthen the muscles as much as possible. I find it helps with the pain in My back, hips and legs. Other than that, I'll taking it one day at a time.
Good luck with school, hope things get easier for you.
Hugs,

So, I want to stay committed to T'aiChi. I want to stay committed to learning to Paint. Both of these skills are new to me...both frustrate me at times...and so this is my desire, committment, resolution.....goal for this year!
Best of Luck with success in the Accedemic Team Tourney!
I'm glad you are returning to therapy. CP is hard enough for anyone, but I would think maybe more so for someone who is still growing, has multiple illnesses and high expectations. All that you have on your shoulders is enough to challenge even the strongest!
One of my goals for this year would be to get more PT for my back.
It might be a good idea for you to talk to the doc who prescribes your opiates about some kind of bowel regimen so you don't have to go through another intestinal blockage.
Take care.
Jeri
