Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

I am so glad that you found DS, it is a great place to meet others who understand, who have compassion and who can offer advice and friendship.
I was about your age when my conditions started, though, not as serious as yours. I am so sorry that you are going through such illness/conditions at all--let alone at your age.
One of the most frustrating things that I remember was because of my age...many doctors/pain MDs would not listen to me or validate me. I don't know if that has been your experience but, I guess when someone is so young there is nothing painful in your body. Pain, I guess, is for old people. Now, I am an older person so I get validated! LOL!
I hope that your new MD will be able to offer the help and treatment that you need to find relief and some freedom. Please keep us/me updated on the progress.
There are many people who may have been through any procedures that are recommended for you as well...So, if you have questions or thoughts about it, post it. I have found many people to be incredibly helpful here over the years.
I don't know if you have these resources so, I have posted them below for you. They are good to find doctors in your area who might be willing to take you on as a patient.
In support to you!

Sorry you're dealing with docs not accepting you because of your age. I was 15 when I first started being super effected by my RA, and I've been turned down by too many doctors to count because of being too young. I'm 20 now, and it's still happening, so, sorry to tell you that this will be something you'll have to deal with for quite a while.
I hope that you really like the neuro you're seeing, but if you don't: have you considered going to a pediatric hospital/pediatric neuro? They're generally only located in bigger cities, but I have to say that the quality of care I received from both the pediatric rheumatologists (at two separate facilities) was absolutely top notch. Since they only deal with children, they won't look down on you because of your age.
Also, doctor appointment anxiety is totally normal. I'm usually a ball of nerves the week before an appointment with a new doc. I've found that if I can keep myself more or less distracted that week, the anxiety doesn't get too bad. Though easier said than done.
It's so hard when we have to go to a new doctor, and our expectations aren't met. It's pretty discouraging.
I hope your new neuro. works out for you and he/she figures out what your symptoms mean. Hopefully it is something that isn't serious.
Sandy
I have a pediatric neurosurgeon in a bigger city a few hours away from here, but since all he could really do for me was a tethered cord release sugery, I only go to him for follow up MRI's now. I've been looking for a normal neurologist since those are the only kind around here and finally found this one but I do agree that pediatric specialists can be helpful.. It just takes up so much gas money and time to travel but if this doctor doesn't work out I think my mom is going to be willing to take me there anyway.
No problem on the " rant ".. I think we've pretty much all had those moments.
And..surely, most of us can related to that new DR anxiety.
Believe it or not...there's a similar prejudice from Docs toward pre to post menapausal women as towards you youngsters....
Much gets dismissed as emotional until proven otherwise.
You just have to stay in the fight, hun..'til you find that one who will really listen. From what we've heard from you..I think you've got it in you.
It sure is not easy, though..no doubt about that.
Good luck with the new Dr..I HOPE this is the one!
Hugs...jc
wishing you the best.
Hang in there.
Kat
please let us know how it turns out.

As for the limb weakness/ It sounds like you are in a great deal of stress right now in your life.
As for the hands, feet and legs issue I get that too. Have been for months. Was finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.
I would think your age has nothing to do with the fact that your in need of a specialist. Young people have neuro issues too! Whats up with that? I am sorry you have had to suffer so.
I will pray for you
