I'm so glad I found this community! It's what I have been looking for! I've been living with chronic pain for about 5 years. The last 2 years have been hell because I have had no insurance, and primary care doctors don't want to give anything out but ultram. And that does nothing for my pain. Some of my conditions include herniated discs in my back, annular tears, degenerative disc disease, fibromyaliga, arthritis in my knees and so on. I'm only 27 years old! I think my age has a lot to do with why no one will treat me. After a long, long search, I found a place where I live that treats people without insurance. They have volunteer doctors and nurses, and are so much nicer then the clinics here I have been going to. I've just been given the run around for almost 2 years. But today I go into see a pain specialist! I'm so excited, but also very nervous. I feel like this is my last resort to get some kind of help. Soon I will be running out of all pain meds I do have...hydrocodone and ultram. They help a little, but not much. A friend of mine just recently gave me her old tens unit, and it is helping. But I want a better quality of life! I can't work..not like this anyways. I'm way too young to be living like this.
If anyone has any words of encouragement or advice, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm so scared this doctor will just be like the rest...not willing to help. I always end up sitting there in the room crying after they leave. I just want some relief! Ok, here I go crying again. I'm just so happy I found a place where people here are going through what I am going though. My appt today is at 5pm EST. (They have a night clinic) Please if you pray, pray that he will help me. Send good vibes, anything. I'm so desperate for a better life!

I'm 27 too.
So sorry it took so long to get back to ya'll.
My appointment went great! The pain doctor really listened to me and wants to help. He's going to set me up with epiderals and PT. I've done both before, but it's been years. I will try anything to get better!
The only problem was the scripts he gave me. He dated them 06 instead of 07. Can you believe that? LOL Must of been a huge brain fart on his part. I will get it fixed on Monday. But until then they called me in a couple Lortabs and Soma's to get through the weekend. This place is a God send!!!

It would be so great if she could find one in her area as she really could use it.
About the free clinic I go to...I way I found out about it was word of mouth. Maybe talk to some people who you know have pain in your area, or who you know don't have insurance. Ask them what they do for medical care. Also, you can try looking up clinics in your yellow pages, or call your county health department. The place I go to is called "Community Health Mission." So, maybe see if you have some similar in your phone book or area. I hope you can find something. Most towns have something like this. I live in a pretty big town, but not huge.
