Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
That plan sounds wonderful, but I think that you are missing one piece on your puzzle. Remember how I told you to look at those 2 websites and try to find a pain management Doctor that would be close to you (and close could be an hour away), well, if you really, really want your pain treated correctly. by a Doctor that does ONLY pain patients, you need to find a good PM Doctor. Is like, would you go to an OBGYN to get a colonoscopy? No right, same here, you are getting treat by a GP, and a GP that apparently does not know, or is afraid of prescribing narcotics, at this pace, you are going to be posting here every single day on how bad your pain is, do your homework, try to find a Doc that is in the area, and that treats chronic pain, and that way your pain will be controlled, and you can achieve all of the things that you need to achieve.
I had to take the horse by the balls as a single woman, and drive 2 hours each way to see my PM Doctor, is what I had to do then, but I did it because I was sick and tired of asking pain management, real pain management from my GP, at a chronic pain group that I belong to online, one lady told me; "Millie if you want real pain control, go see a PM Doctor", and she was right! Take the advice of those of us that have been there and done that, if this Doc does not want to give you medications that will work for your pain, go and find a PM, that way you can do all the things that you want to do before selling your house.
Hugs,
At my last doc appt., I agreed to try to get in to a new pain clinic at a hospital only a half hour from where I live. When they first opened, they refused me saying they didn't take VT state insurance...yet. I asked them to contact me when they did and I never heard back from them. That was several moths ago. My doc said she'd make the referral so I could try again, but she completely forgot. Her nurse called me 3 weeks later and said the doc wanted to know if I'd consder going to a pain clinic!!!
I told her that we'd had this conversation and 'd been waiting to hear from the clinic!!!
Look your doctor in the eye and tell them how you feel. Don't ask for any particular medication, but do tell them that what you have doesn't seem to be cutting it. Don't use words like under medicated. Eye contact and honesty should let the doctor know what's going on.
Write things down on paper before you go in so you don't forget to ask something.
Bring someone with you if you can.
I hope you get the treatment you need.
David.
If that hospital didn't call you, you need to call them back and follow up, if the hospital has a pain management program, must likely they will have pain management Doctor's that practice in private offices around the area, so give those websites a chance, and see if you can find one.
On Monday when you see your GP, tell her exactly how you feel, if you have to write down questions, or symptoms so you don't get any go ahead and do so. If this Doctor is your GP, and she is a Doc, why can't she referred you to a pain Doctor???!!! She should be able to, even if he is an hour or 2 hours away, my GP does my referrals, is not left for me to do, so maybe you need to ask her to send you to someone that can help you. Like I said before, if you don't take the bull by the horns, and advocate for yourself, no one else will, so I hope that tomorrow goes well, and that your Doc can figure out something for you.
Hugs,
Ok my pm has my pain manageable with morphine er 3 times a day with demerol for breakthrough. It makes some days liveable. Which is more than had before I found him.
I hope you can get her to hear you and help you. Your in my thoughts and prayers. Pack that shoulder with ice 20 mins on 20 mins off then wear a sling so you don't use it.
Healing hugs
Tomorrow, I'll be having a serious talk about a new plan. I'll ask her about my need for a pain management doc. She's way too careful.
I will pray that you get the help that you need.
Hugs,
He had me coming 3 times a week for about 3 months. He told me hat healing was a combination of mind, body and spirit. Sounded good to me since all of the above feel broken. He spent a lot of time pushing around on my abdomen to break up old scar tissue. Ouch!
Anyway...I'm worse...everywhere!
