Hello everyone!
Some of you may or may not remember me. It has been awhile since I have been active here at DS. After a scorching hot summer, the school season crept up on us and we were extremely busy getting the kids ready for back to school and had to attend a few school functions right away since both of my kids play in the band. Now, we are busy planning for the upcoming holidays which are always very special to us.
I have a bed set up in the living room now which is a huge help in making me more comfortable during the day and I also have my very first wheelchair. Although a manual one, it has already been a huge help in ensuring that I do not miss any school functions.
Soooo, I am hanging in there with my back pain, however, I now have a somewhat new problem that I am dealing with. For some reason, I have been experiencing migraines 24/7. From the time I open my eyes to the time I go to bed, my head and eyes hurt and it nauseates me most of the time. I have been a migraine sufferer for 30 yrs, however, it hasn't been much of a problem in recent years. Then, about 4 weeks ago, I was having a nice dinner with my family when all of a sudden, my head started hurting. I assumed that after I took a nap, it would be gone, but it wasn't. In fact, it has never gone away. I am starting to get very depressed about this.
I followed up with my doctor after the first few days of it and she ordered an MRI & MRA right away. Thank goodness, the results were negative for a brain tumors or brain aneurysm, however, I am still no closer to a REASON why this is happening. While I was at that doctor's visit, the nurse gave me a migraine shot which didn't even touch it. My migraine medicine also does not work. I am currently on a steroid (prednisone) for possible inflammation, however, it has been 2 weeks now and it has not helped either. I did schedule an eye exam & while I need reading glasses, the eye doctor said that my eyes would not be causing the consistent migraines.
Sooo, I spend most of my time in bed with ice or a cold washcloth over my head/eyes and have not been up to tuck my kids in at night, which makes me feel very guilty. I really don't want to feel this way, especially going into the holidays.
Has anyone here experienced anything like this and if so, did you get any relief from it? Any thoughts or ideas would be most appreciated.
Thank you very much!
~Carrie

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I don't think your doc should assume that just because you don't have a tumor, it couldn't still be something else causing this. If migraine meds aren't touching it, why do they assume they're migraines?
I know some pople here have found relief from botox injections. Has your doc suggested that as a treatment? I hope more testing is planned and if not, how about looking into another opinion?
I understand how busy life gets with young children, but I hope you don't stay away for so long again!
Love and hugs...

ROZIA: I have never heard of Chiari malformation or syringomyelia, however, I will be sure to look those up...thank you.
cherry: I have suffered migraines for 30 yrs now. All of the symptoms I feel are EXACTLY like a migraine, so either they ARE migraines or it is something else disguised as migraines. I was also very concerned when the migraine shot didn't work. I really had expected it to, so when it didn't, I also questioned if I was dealing with something else here.
Susie: No, I am not on any new medications. I have been taking the same meds for years now.
I do know that I cannot continue like this. I don't know, maybe some bloodwork needs to be done? At any rate, I will be calling my doctor tomorrow for a follow up appointment. She is a really good doctor so I know that she will do everything she can to help me. I just hope that God willing, that help comes sooner than later!
Hugs,

There are several good preventatives out there now, if you go to the Migraine Board you can get a lot of info.
The first thing you should do is see s Neurologist, preferably one who specializes in headaches/migraines. Other Dr.'s try there best but they don't know how to diagnose or treat various types of headaches and migraines. I use Topomax as a preventative and take Axert at onset.
As a Chronic Pain patient I can tell you that I'm also daily on several narcotics, and they don't touch my migraines. So you might consider getting with a Neuro who knows about migraines and getting on some real Migraines meds.
Take care,
Kat

I am a chronic pain sufferer and currently take MSContin, Gabapentin & Vicodin on a daily basis and have for years. I previously took topamax for years to treat nerve pain in my legs. Unfortunately, it never helped with my migraines. I tried to go back on the topamax a few months ago, but didn't like the side effects so I decided to stick with the Gabapentin.
I currently take Imitrex for my migraines, however, it is not effective either, so I obviously need to try something new. I called my doctor's office today and luckily, they were able to get me in tomorrow afternoon for a follow-up to see what my doctor wants to do next.
Wish me luck....I think I am going to need it!
Hugs & Blessings,
Carrie
Nice to see you again, and so sorry you are going through this hell. Why now is secondary to how to stop it. Sounds like you are doing everything right. I find with such pain, I will clench and hold tension, even when asleep, which perpetuates the problem in a viscous circle.
When I have a big one that won't go away, I will hit it with all my arsenal before I go to bed. Imitrex, pain killer and most importantly, a muscle relaxer. Ice behind the neck and over the forehead, and then deep breathing and deep sighing to make sure all the tension is gone. All your tricks at once.
Could just be the fall weather change, or change of life, or it's just the miserable disease. Hope it breaks soon, hun.

A couple things I forgot to mention, I always take my meds with caffiene and chocolate whey they're really bad, and it helps. Also a big agitator of my migraines is the Barometric pressure, when it goes up and down due to storms and season changes.
I hope you find some help with this.
