It's true that you are likely to gain weight with Neurontin but for me it's worth it.
I now take 2700mg per day of Neurontin, 250mg of Tramadol and 100mg of Amitriptyline at night. Working well - check my post about Pain management.

I don't have nerve pain so Neurontin didnt help me at all.
But has anyone with nerve pain tried both of these--methadone and neurontin and can compare which worked better for them?
if i were you, i would try neurotin especially since effectiveness of methadone is waning. surprised your doc didn't put you on neurotin first as it's usually first line of attack for dreaded nerve pain.
i've tried both. Both helped yet caused intolerable side effects for me.
i'd give the edge to methadone but as you know everyone reacts differently to meds also in my case i didn't get over 1200 mgs/day on neurotin due to adverse effects.
