Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
From what I know about Oxycodone and Oxycontin, I beleive that it depends- not only on your degree or level of pain, but your tolorance to the drug.
In my case, I was taking 120mg/2X a day for about four months. My stomach felt like it was about to burst. I went back to my pain doc @ the time, AND my G.P. and told them my symptoms. They both concluded that my dosage should be reduced back to 90mg/2X a day. I was @ that dosage level for almost 18months, along with a long list of other meds. I got so frustrated and angry that nothing was working or helping anymore. So, I decided to take myself off of everything. I have been med free since late June/early July.
What i'm trying to say is, that it really depends on your level of pain, and your tolorance to the medication. I hope this helps you.
Also... they may not even have the WHOLE story right anyway...you just never know for sure. I would agree with everyone, ask your Dr. about your concerns...
*You know... I dont know if you already do this, but I HAVE TO write EVERYTHING down... it would probably look a little ridiculous to anyone else BUT>> I dont have such a great memory sometimes and with "Fibro Fog"...I really dont think I could keep everything straight. Sometimes... If I am not sure about something, I go look at my Handy Dandy little notebook, and there it is.
My doctor told me once there is no pill out there that will take away your problems, the problems are still there only masked. All doctors should try to take care of the problem and while doing that if pain meds are needed sure we need a quality of life.
Now i know a lot of people will say, i am at the end of anything out there to help me, tried everything and i will just be on meds the rest of my life.
What is good about time is, that some times doctors will find new ways to treat pain, so if not today maybe tomorrow always keep pushing your doctor to find ways to treat the pain and get rid of it and just not mask it.
I think a good portion of people, are not really that much in pain, but when our bodies take these high dosage's of meds when they start to wear off, the body aches and needs more(withdrawl) and some people get it confused the pain is from the meds not taken no pain from the part of the body they think it is.
Not all people this happens to, but some so i think it is always smart to go off these meds from time to time to see what the pain really is.
I went in to the doctors the other day, and she asked what is the pain level, well i really dont know what pain level i am at really if i take a long acting time released pain med i really dont know how much pain i am in. I can tell her what pain i am in with the pain med.
sorry for rambleing
