Hmmm...I'm not familiar with the med you've been taking so what I suggest might not be any help.

Anti-seizure meds are what I'm always told are best for nerve pain. It's said that narcotics don't work for that particular type of pain. I have Cervical Neuropathy and the pain from my neck is so bad that it takes over my whole arm and hand. It maks a stop along the way and stays in my torn Rotator Cuff.

Enough whining from me. Have you tried Neurontin?

I think what youre on is stronger than demerol, and demeral isnt one they usually give out at pain clinics. Have you tried oxycontin, mscontin, the fentanyl patch? I have a friend that has the same disorder you have and she takes methadone and liquid morphine in the evening, it works for her, not totally pain free, but who is?

Yes I was on oxy for a long time its really hard to get in Florida because they are cracking down really hard down here , I also was on methadone and timed release morphine which gave me really bad side effects . And diddnt really help I haven't had any luck with timed release meds. Oh well I have a 8am appt with my pain doc its just now I'm taking so much dilauded its not helping anymore

Fentenal I haven't tried I wonder how my Insurance will react to that is it costly? Living on ss disability is not easy with a family.

I'm with Cherry about the type of meds. If you have nerve pain then you need a neuro drug not a narcotic.

You say you are going to a pain clinic. What type of doctor is treating you for your condition? A neurologist or orthopedist? I've found that ortho's often don't understand nerve damage while neurologists have a much deeper understanding.

Also it might be time to head back to the specialist to see if there is a new problem or further damage. After all what will you do when the next med stops working? I wouldn't wait until the options are all gone.

Maybe you should have been on a extended release med I take MSContin which is time release and Dilaudid for breakthrough pain. But I take this but it may not be good for nerve induced pain, since my pain is caused by fractures, and other psychical trauma. Maybe see a neurologist or a pain management Dr's.

I have seen many neurolagists they won't prescribe pain meds everything they tried on me did not help , unfortunately because of my nerve damage only large doses of narcotics help, I was on ms contin also , I have tried everything. The dilauded has the least side effects fluid in the lungs etc I do go to a pain specialists who just scratches his head. He allmost killed me installing a cordical stimulator even the rep from medtronics kinda hinted something wasn't rite . I probably have a great law suit there . Oh well I don't know what to do I am going thru my dilauded fast this month

I have tried many drugs and the best thing that I have ever tried and that made me 99% pain free was Suboxone. Of course my insurance will not cover it because I am not an addict, I had to go back to methadone. I might as well take a tylenol for all the good methadone does. I grieved for so long that I could not take suboxone and had to leave a care free life back to one of pain every day. I cannot wait for Jan, when I can change my insurance to a plan that will cover the suboxone. It works the same as Methadone. I don't know if it will work for you but no harm in asking. What are you all saying? Narcotics doesn't help nerve pain? unless it's a large amt, right?

Mark what about a pain pump? or another dr. for scs? I couldn't take anti sezure meds..couldn't walk /confused...but some here take it.

As drugs don't do a thing , only narcotics help manage the pain . I thank you all for your input, all with different problems so its hard to recommend treatment. My diabetes has done so much damage to my nerve endings that it feels like the switch is turned up full 24 hours a day. That's my problem and I have tried all the recomended treatments , which are bullshit they haven't even begun to understand my problem. Plus I am extra sensitive , can't deal with pain and side effects related to the few drugs that give somewhat relief to some. Thanks again all I will let u all know how it goes because at this rate I will run out of meds at least 10 days early this month. Ouchhhhhhhhh

Hi Mark, when I was in the worst pain in my life(nerve pain) Demoral is the only thing that helped. Its the best far as I'm concerned for pain.

Mark, all I can say is I so know how bad nerve pain can be. I've had RSD for 5 years, and SCS for one year. SCS displaces my nerve pain. I had tried everything my neurologist could think of. He even gave me Oxycontin and Lortab, both ineffective. As a last resort, we tried SCS. My reaction was "ahhhhh." It's been around for 40 years so I didn't feel like a guinea pig trying it. It's a good thing it helps me because that was the avenue of last resort. Some people don't like the stim signal, but I find it much preferable to the nerve pain.

Have you thought of asking your doc about SCS?

You don't mention anything for nerve pain. Do you take anything? I have heard Topomax is good for that. Just a thought. I know there are a lot of people one here with nerve pain. I have a friend that finds nerotin nor Cymabalta works. She also has the fenatly patch and it doesn't work.
