When I went in to a new doc after mine died, he was an anesthesiologist and said even though I did 100 % on the dose I'd been on over a decade w/ NO increases in that time, he wanted me off the mscontin and muscle relaxants. He said I wouldn't react well if I ever had surgery b/c I took such a high dose for so long. He wanted me on suboxone for a time and I looked into it. Obviously I declined or I'd be cheering you through this, but my confusion is about you being at home.
My doc said I would have to be in the hospital at least a week, at least 4-5 days for the mscontin to be brought down and out and then to build up the suboxone to what helped the pain. But after reviewing it, the doctor added another 3-4 days b/c of the muscle relaxant. It's funny- IF they'd allowed the muscle relaxer (I know they can't b/c the suboxone would "attack" it and it wouldn't work) I might've tried it. But I'm needle and medical phobic (meaning I can't even listen to someone talking about an illness, can't stand the smell of doctor offices or hospitals, etc. I'm a wimp.) Luckily I found a good doc who said suboxone wouldn't have worked for my condition anyway, though it was a good drug.
So, after I wrote a novella here, I'm curious about what they're detoxing you from and why they aren't observing you in a hospital? Are they doing it slowly or cold turkey? I haven't detoxed before except once by accident when I stupidly quit all my meds for a day b/c I thought being pregnant had cured my RSD. Boy, was I wrong. And my doc at the time was pretty angry. But then he said I just wasn't educated on my meds by my 1st doc, who had retired. All I know is I felt like my legs were going to shake off my body, I was nauseous and my stomach constantly upset. I was hot, cold, and in between. I thought I was DYING! I'm not kidding- my poor hubby thought I was dying too- he's the 1 who called my doctor.
No matter what, I pray the suboxone works for you. The only people who've told me it didn't work were RSD patients, and there are lots of people who say it is a miracle drug. It will be for you, too!
Good Luck Buddy- and Happy Chanukah!
