For me personally, the way I see it is that there have always been bad people on Earth from the time Cain killed Able shortly after man's banishment from the garde, and even the banishment itself was because of man (or humans) doing something that was pretty stupid and selfish (If you believe in the Bible's account of things that is). But for as long as there have been bad people there have been kind and caring ones. There have almost always been more bad people than good as well. But the most encouraging thing to me is that there is something that's been around longer than stupid selfish people and will still be around long after they are all dead and gone, and that is God's devine providence over the world (not to mention the entire universe). God having a say in everything gives me hope and continues to comfort me and provides a level of peace. But..... that's just how I see it through my Christian beliefs. I can definately understand and even relate to people that dont see it that way at all. I use to see things much differently

Kris did this happen to you? Or what? I can believe this happens. The lack of respect for others these days is pitiful. My own daughter would kick my cane out from under me. So I get it.

Yes it happened to me earlier today while i was out with my son...

If someone did that to me or If I seen that done to some disabled person I would hurt the that scumbag and when he gets out of the hospital I'd steal their newly needed cane and break it over their head.

Trust me Ryan, both of the delinquents are regretting their choice tonight, bit of advice for the youth of today.... Do not steal from a 6'4" 300 lb man with a chip on his shoulder.... and if perchance you do, when you talk crap to said person do not do it within arms reach........

I miss living out in the country, my wife and I have been talking about finding a nice small town to move to away from it all...

Sadly, even in small towns there's still people, so ie still bad people. Sorry you had to deal with this, and I too have lost hope for civilization but my dream place is our cabin on top of a mountain with the nearest neighbor about a mile away.

Even then bad people can intrude especially during hunting season. But mostly it's much quieter.

When in the nearest small town we noticed more of the nuts and "bad" people, but we finally decided it wasn't that there was more of them, just less people and you know everyone at least by seeing them around, so they stick out more. There is however, more tolerance in some ways to simply leave someone alone and the expectation of being left alone in return.

Gossip however is rampant as people really have nothing better to do :) And newest person in town is gossiped about the most!

I am so sorry this happened to you! OMG, I really don't know what gets into people, especially the younger ones these days. At least they got the worst of it. Hopefully they will think twice before ever doing something like that again.

I am sorry that you had to go through this!!!!!!!

Kris a few weeks ago my husband was walking up 7th Ave in NYC to work. It was raining and everyone was dodging umbrellas. Around 39th St my husband sees a woman walking toward him. He noticed that she seemed unsteady and then she just drops to the ground.

My husband drops his umbrella and lunch bag and goes down on the ground. He's holding her head up out of the water as the woman has a seizure. A crowd forms around them. My husband notices a few guys getting closer to the womans belongings which had scattered on the ground. He manages to get his arm through the strap of her pocketbook as these guys start scooping up her makeup and other items that had spilled out.

Luckily a guy my husband works with was right behind him. He called for an ambulance and was watching my husbands back... A few minutes later the police and ambulance show up and take over.

My husband gets up soaked and filthy. He looks over and one of the ghouls was holding my husbands umbrella. My husband asks for it back and the guy says "I have this umbrella". My husband says "give me my umbrella". I think they went another round until my husband got in his face.... you don't mess with a guy who has worked construction in NYC for 30+ years.

Moral of the story...for every good person there are a few just waiting to take advantage. But there are still some good people, you just have to look.

WTFudge?!? Are you serious?!? I cannot believe that some kid had the audacity to "pick" on a grown man for kicks and giggles. I am so very sorry that you had to go through that. i hope you were able to file an harrassment charge or something. i am so glad that you are ok. hugs to you my friend.

I hope your son is ok too - must have been both a traumatic and a my-dad-takes-care-of-it type experience for him. How awful for both of you - makes me sick.

Sadly, the world seems increasingly Darwinian or Lord of the Flies... Those considered weak or inferior are treated mercilessly. Just look at the high rates of bullying, gay suicide, and social anxiety disorder stats of overweight people. This world is not a "kinder, gentler" place for many. It is appalling.

But a few good apples exist and I hope they find their way into all our lives. I know I could use a lot more kindness; I suspect many here feel the same. Take care!
